    3. The pre-1907 vital records are not complete by any means. Whether it is a waste of money to send a request directly to the county is questionable. I have a ggggrandmother who died at Fairchild, on the border of Eau Claire and Jackson counties but a death record can't be found for her 16 Feb 1890 death. The questionable part is this: I have looked at Eau Claire's corthouse when I went home for a visit several years ago and didn't find it. That did not surprise me because their farm was actually in Garden Valley, Jackson County. But a letter to Jackson Co. yielded a response of 'not found'. A great aunt told me before she died that someone else in the family had gotten the same answer to a letter and didn't believe it, so they went to Jackson Co. courthouse and looked in person. (An option I don't have) She says they found it but before the days of copy machines in every public office, apparently wrote down the death date and that is all. On the other hand, I have found the Eau Claire courthouse to be quite helpful by mail. No easy answer to this one. I hope I haven't confused you more!
