Hi Tim If you go to the UW-Eau Claire web site you can navigate around to get to their special collections room where they will do look ups for you. I do not know what the cost would be. UWEC has the Eau Claire paper on microfilm also which goes back to the 1870's. JIM JI31313@aol.com

Wi Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/EauClaire/10653 Surname: Piel, Karow ------------------------- Am searching for any information on my great-grandparents, Herman and Mary Piel. I have located her grave in Augusta, Eau Claire County, Wi. but have been unable to find any information on them. Do have some letters that they wrote to my Grandmother in the early 1920. I beleive they were members of the Lutheran Church.
Who has copies of this index besides the Eau Claire library? Is there a copy of this at the State Historical Society in Madison? Nobody there knows of any indexes. They obviously should have a copy, since they have the largest microfilm newspaper collection in the state of Wisconsin. I remember seeing a card index at the museum in Eau Claire. But being in Milwaukee, that is a long distance for me to travel on a regular basis. I have not yet made it to the library or courthouse in Eau Claire. I've been looking through the Eau Claire newspapers in Madison on a hit or miss basis. Does the Genealogical Research Society of Eau Claire have a web site or e-mail address? You mention the records of Lakeview being sketchy. How about the cemetery records of St. Joseph's/Sacred Heart and Forest Hill cemeteries? Do you know where and when those records can be accessed. I've only gone walking through the three cemeteries on weekends. I have several ancestors that were pioneers of Eau Claire. --- Peveril610@aol.com wrote: > Something to keep in mind when looking for death > dates: > > There is an Index to Eau Claire County Area > Obituaries and Death Notices > compiled by members of the Genealogical Research > Society of Eau Claire 1995. > This lists the names of the deceased and the > newspaper citation where the > obit can be found. Something to keep in mind when looking for death dates: There is an Index to Eau Claire County Area Obituaries and Death Notices compiled by members of the Genealogical Research Society of Eau Claire 1995. This lists the names of the deceased and the newspaper citation where the obit can be found. You then make a search of the microfilmed newspaper. The Eau Claire public library has a copy of it as well as the microfilmed newspapers. It has been of great help to me. As most of you are[probably aware it was not a law to record vital stats until 1907 in WI, so many were not recorded. Sometimes there was no probate and often cemetery records are sketchy or nonexistent. Those of Lakeview in Eau Claire are very poor. It appears all they can tell you about burials from the 1800's is whether someone is there. Shawn Ford Appleton
Since Sunday was Mother's Day I have been thinking about the missing mother's in my family. Those mother's that died young and were soon forgotten. I have one of those mother's in Eau Claire County. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Wilhelmina "Minnie" KUEHN born in Germany dau. of Daniel and Anna KUEHN m. Philip HAMMER in Lincoln Township, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin in 1862. Gave birth to three sons; John (1863), Herman (1865), and Carl Gustav (1867). d. 1869 according to Herman HAMMER. He told his children that his mother died when he was 4 years old, making her date of death 1869. I have not found a grave, nor a death record for her. The only record I have of her existance is these three sons and her marriage record. Philip married again about 1871 to Fredricka Sieg of Eau Claire County and had another family. Wilhelmina was forgotten by everyone. If there are any descendants of KUEHN's (or KUHN) in Eau Claire County on this list, please email me. Wilhelmina must be a missing daughter or sister to someone.
