Hi Everyone, Well, this is day one of the WIEAUCLA-L mailing list. I would like to say thanks to those who have subscribed. I am looking forward to many good conversations with each and every one of you. It is my hope that you will enjoy this list and that we will all learn from each other. I will be sharing lots of good information (at least, I hope you think it's good!) that I have gathered from old newspapers that cover the Eau Claire Co. area. I will be posting bits and pieces, and sometimes whole articles, to keep things flowing. If anything sparks your interest, please speak up! No need to be shy! We're all friends here -- after all, genealogists are the nicest people on earth! Here's just a little example of what I'll be posting: >From "The Daily Telegram", Eau Claire, WI on 8 April 1942 In the Personals column: Leslie Weichel, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Weichel, Route 5, Union, enlisted in the Army Air Corps, on 17 March 1942. He is at present stationed at Jefferson Barracks, MO. Chester Stotesbury is confined at Luther Hospital. Miss Ella Seymore, of Wichita, KS, formerly of Eau Claire, is visiting her sister, Mrs. S. O. Staake, Hudson St. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Horlicker, Jr., on 7 April 1942 at Luther Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Downs of Rhinelander announce the birth of a daughter today, 8 April. Mrs. Downs was formerly Miss Eileen Ellis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Ellis of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert H. Larson announce the marriage of their daughter, Mildred to Lieut. Harry W. Lusk, son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Lusk of Harrisburg, PA. The wedding took place at the Federated church in Ayer, MA on Saturday, 28 March 1942. A surprise birthday party was held recently in honor of Mrs. Herman Krueger on her 58th birthday at her home, 452 Francis St. Guests who attended were: the Mmes. Amelia Muecke, Milton Holtz, Othelia Olson, Lena Lune, Eros Lane, Clarence Fry, Gust Krueger, Paul Hagen, Robert Felton, Robert McCarthy, Paul Krueger, Dave Gustavson, Ray Kohler, Herbert Koehler, Gert Prieau and Frank Lasseck. A lunch was served and Mrs. Krueger was presented with many lovely gifts. Also, a great article on the Girl Reserves of Eau Claire Senior High School, which includes a list of the 197 girls who were members. Anyone interested in hearing the names? Do you want to see this kind of info on the mailing list? There are many great stories that will be of genealogical value to someone. Another article in this paper is about Mr. and Mrs. Krenz celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Sacred Heart Hospital. Your input will really help me to know what you are looking for. Thanks! And again, Welcome aboard! -- Nance Sampson Eau Claire Co. Mail List Owner mailto:[email protected]
