The line is originally from Pennsylvania. Two Studebaker brothers (Peter and Clement) and an older Studebaker cousin (Heinrich) came from Solingen, Germany, in about 1732 to Pennsylvania. Heinrich Studebaker and his pregnant wife Christine Miller were killed on the western frontier in Pennsylvania (Fayette County) in March 1754 by a band of Seneca and Delaware Indians led by Shingas. A toddler was also killed. An elder daughter was visiting away from the home and obviously survived. Brothers Joseph and Phillip were captured, as was a younger daughter. Joseph was redeemed from the Indians after about five years of captivity, and Phillip was redeemed after about seven years of captivity. The younger daughter stayed with the Indians who captured her and reared a family. Phillip was my ancestor. Both Joseph and Phillip served in the Revolutionary War. Phillip moved to Ohio where, among other things,! he had a son named Daniel. Daniel married Nancy Hoover Wieland / Wyland and moved to Indiana where they raised a family at Montgomery County. Their daughter Hannah married a man from Tennessee named James Anderson Prophet / Proffit / Proffit / Profet and they appear in the 1860 Wisconsin census at Jackson County and in the 1870 Wisconsin census at Dunn County. They are my maternal great-great-grandparents. (I have five grandparents who were killed by Indians in the period 1670 through 1754, as well as one grandmother who spent five years in captivity in Canada and two years at the Ursuline Convent in Quebec before being redeemed by the authorities in Boston in 1711.)
