"Blackie" Gregory, 90, formerly of Elk Mound, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood. Grant was born Nov. 9, 1906, in Madison, S.D., to Sherman and Sarona (Session) Gregory. Grant worked for several places in the Elk Mound area including the automotive repair shop, driving school bus for many years and also being elected as Town Marshal for two consecutive terms. He also worked for Chippewa Farms Service and Morrison Implement feed mill department in Chippewa Falls. In later years Grant took care of the Town of Wheaton Landfill. He is survived by a son, Dean (Yvonne) Gregory of Spring Valley; a daughter, Sarah (David) Casper of Exeland; three stepchildren, Mary Miller of Spring Valley, Willis (Brenda) Woodbeck of Chippewa Falls and Ernie Woodbeck of Refugio, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Blanche Ryder; his second wife, Ethel Rosseter; five brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services for Grant Gregory will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with the Rev. John Mikkelson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Elk Mound. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
