    3. The sexton of the cemetery should know who the original owner was. Then the ownership continues on down the line in the immediate family. Usually after a generation or two.. the sexton/cemetery association will ask the family to give back the remaining lots to the cemetery. Owning a cemetery lot is not like a piece of real estate. The owner.. or the heirs are not at liberty to "sell" the lot(s). All transactions must go through the cemetery sexton/association. Some people have their lots "deeded". This still doesn't give them liberty to "sell" the lot. A deed to a cemetery lot is usually registered at the county courthouse too. So, if your cemetery sexton can't provide you with the original ownership of a lot.. check with the county register of deeds office, It just might be there. If still concerned as to who would own the lot after all these years.. ask the cemetery sexton for a copy of the by-laws. It may be spelled out there. Jayme :-))
