I'm pretty certain this is the same family line!! I am told that Emma was from the Stillwater area, and I know that at least one of her children was born there.... I'm happy to share what little I have on Emma & Joseph: Emma's children were Lloyd, Gary, Joseph, Ervin, Lawrence "Dick", Loretta, Leona, and Betty. Lloyd (my husband's grandfather) was the oldest child, and was born out of wedlock on 2-25-1899 in Stillwater, MN. We believe his biological father's last name was Gaynor. I am trying to find a copy of his birth certificate, which has proven difficult. He was adopted by Emma's husband, Joseph Bergman. I have more information on Lloyd's children, grandchildren, etc. etc. If you're interested, let me know and I'd be happy to share this info. also. Their last child, Betty, died soon after birth of a heart condition. Lawrence, nicknamed "Dick", never married. I don't have anything more about the other children; however, there is a family reunion coming up on Aug. 10th (Siren, WI), and I will try to find out more. I know that Emma and Joseph lived in Hammond, WI and raised their kids there. I believe they were farmers. I am trying to find out more about this also. If you have any further information on Emma, including her parents names, further sibling names or sibling families, marriage information, birth/death info., etc. please feel free to e-mail me!! This is exactly what I've been looking for!! I'd also be interested in knowing more about what that "eating green apples" is all about... sounds very interesting!! I'm making a family scrapbook, and all the tidbits and family stories make it all the more interesting! Thanks again for replying to this message. Heather

I was told also that Emma died at about 100 years old from "eating green apples". Emma had sisters named Bertha who married a Palmer. A brother Edward Fred who was my grandfather. All of these people came from the Bayport(South Stillwater area). I remember seeing a copy of Emma's marriage license and she spelled her maiden name as Schmidt then she crossed it out and spelled it Smith. This was in the time of the first world war and there was much anti German sentiment at the time. If any of this seems familiar let me know and we can then exchange information. Any information you might have on these individuals would be appreciated.

Surnames: Dahl, Brostuen, Stone Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gFC.2ACI/1284 Message Board Post: Ole E. Dahl, proprietor of a fine 240-acre farm in Section 29, town of Rock Creek was born in Shaker, Gudbrandsdalen, Norway, Aug. 15, 1868, son of Esten and Sigrid (Holemark) Dahl. When he was four years old his mother died, and his father subsequently married Mrs. Elcha Sperstad, with whom at a later date he came to America. Both finally died on the farm of the subject of this sketch in the town of Rock Creek. The latter, who was eduated in his native land, came to America in 1888, and it was in the spring of 1889 that he settled in the town of Rock Creek, Dunn Co. and began farming, buying 80 acres of land in Section 29. The tract was partly improved, but the buildings were poor, the dwelling being only a board shanty. It was in the same year that he was joined by his father and step-mother, they taking up their residence with him. As the farm would not at first support them, Ole worked out at road building for two years, but made improvements on his farm as he was able. He bought a building at Porterville, which he tore down, hauling the lumber to his farm and using it to enlarge and improve his house, which he converted into a comfortable residence. He then set actively to work, clearing, grubbing, and developing his land, anfd the result is his present fine farm. His house is now set off with a pleasing lawn adorned with flowers and shrubbery; his barn measures 32 x 60 feet, and his out-buildings, all substantial and adequate, include a granary, machine sheds, hog and chicken houses, and two fine silos, one of cement block construction measuring 12 x 30 feet, and the other of solid cement, 10 x 27 feet. He has a very complete assortment of machinery, including a tractor. He has added to his holdings until his farm now includes 240 acres, all in Section 29 except 40 acres of Section 30. He gives special attention to dairying, though he also raises some small grain, and he is a stockholder in the Meridean Cooperative Creamery. A good practical farmer, he is also a realiable citizen, interested in everything that makes for the welfare of the community in which he resides and the county generally, and has served as road commissioner of his district. Mr. Dahl ws married on April 18, 1896, to Annie Brostuen, born at Shaker, Gudbrandsdalen, Norway, Aug. 31, 1865, and who after a married life of 18 years, died on the farm July 29, 1912. The children of this marriage were 5 in number: Edwin T., born Dec 20, 1897, now employed in a lumber yard in Hibbing, MN; Peter, born April 15, 1899, who was married July 25, 1924 to Emma Stone, and is his father's assistnat on the home farm; Clara, born Feb. 18, 1901, who has the care of the household; and Thalman and Odin (twins) born oct. 2, 1906 who are also residing on the home farm. Ludwig Dragseth attended public school in his native land and for a few years followed farming. He then learned the trade of carpenter and cabinet-maker and was engaged in it there until 1902, when he came to America with his family, locating at once to Menomonie, Dunn Co. For ten years he worked as a carpenter for the well known contractor, J.S. Govin, was later for 3 years in the employ of Sever Olson and for shorter periods worked for other contractors. In 1918 he was at Barksdale in Bayfield Co, Wis and then returned to Menomonie and worked for a year for contractor Rudolph Jaeger. He is now in business for himself as a contracting carpenter, and at his home at 1220 Third Street, which he purchased in 1914, he has a shop in which he does all kinds of cabinet work and repairing. Her parents came to American in 1886, locating in Menomonie, and Mr. Sneen was from that time on in the employ of the Knapp, Stout & Co. company, until they retired from business, working in the mill in summer and in the woods in winter. After the company closed down their plant and business here in 1901, he worked at Drummond, Bayfield County, Wis, until old age caused him to retire. He now lives with Mr. Dragseth, the subject of this sketch, his wife having died in July, 1920. Mr. and Mrs. Dragseth are the parents of a son, John L., born Oct. 11, 1900. He was graduated from the high school and then entered Stout Institute, where he took a two years course, after which he taught school one year in Waterville, Minn. The re-entering Stout, he completed the other two years of the course, being graduated with a degree of B.A. in June, 1923. He is now a director of manual training at Dubuque, Iowa.
