We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We have just published the results of our search to find the poorhouse holdings of the Wisconsin State Archives (Wisconsin Historical Society). Their on-line catalogue reveals that they hold various types of poorhouse records for the following counties: Brown, Chippewa, Dane, Dunn, Fond du Lac, Forest, Grant, Green, Iowa, Lincoln, Pierce, Polk, Racine, Rock, and St. Croix. So we have posted a table showing you their descriptions of those records. The way their search engine yields results makes it difficult to provide URLs, so you may need to do your own search to get more information about the specific location of the records as well as information about access to them. It's always a good idea to do your own search; and if you come up with any that we missed, please let us know. (Those search engines are so variable!) An examination of the list of holdings for Dane County will provide you with an example of the variety of such records. DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on WISCONSIN on the table of states. If you have been to the website recently you may have to click REFRESH or RELOAD on the browser to see the new information. There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

John Dunn (1824-1910) was a son of Judge Charles Dunn in WI. John Dunn had a son named Tarleton Dunn (b 1881) and, according to our file, Tarleton Dunn had two sons named Howard and Robert. Unfortunately our documentation is feeble - being based on one family letter. But I can provide you with some additional information. Clyde Tucker

My family keeps very much to themselves and so I don't really know much of anything. Thank you!

The 1870 Census has Julia or Juliana living in Oak Grove, Eau Claire County, WI. Juliana S. Culp was my GreatGreatgrandmother, she was previously married to Cornelius Culp Sr. who died during the Civil War. Cornelius S. I enjoy buying lovely old pictures like these in antique shops (pictures with names on the back and locations on the front) and locating descendants/family members so that I can re-unite the pictures, for only my costs, with the people who will treasure them. The photo of Vernon was taken in probably December 1903, as the statement on the photo is “born June 7, 1903, age 5 months”. The photo was taken by the Hoff & Kausrud Studio in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Menomonie is in Dunn Co. Vernon is wearing a christening dress, and is a nearly bald baby boy with dark eyes. The photo is 2-3/4” x 4” and mounted on heavy cardboard (45” x 7-1/2”) as was typical during that time frame. The picture is in excellent condition and is an original. If you have a Vernon Mittelbach in your family, or if you can relate to the Mittelbachs of Dunn Co., WI, please Email me directly at margerice@prodigy.net.

I would like to make contact with people who have submitted genealogies to Family Tree Maker, however, previous efforts to do so have been unsuccessful. Specifically I am trying to contact the person who submitted the genealogy for 1.Alexander Culbertson born May 17, 1714 2.John Samuel Culbertson born July 7, 1858 in Wisconsin and died Dec. 22 , 1905 at Red Wing MN 3. Lorenzo DAN (name should be DOW) Baker who was born in NY abou 1787-1818 and died in 1894 in Menomonie WI. I have detailed documented information about Lorenzo Baker that I would like to share with the contributer. I would also like to make contact with descendants of his grandsons Norman Baker born June 5 1880 in Dunn County and Clarence Baker born April 28, 1887 in Dunn County. Thank you to anyone who can provide help. Mary Ellen Brue
I just happened to be looking at a list of people buried in the Tiffany Cemetery in Boyceville, WI, and your Diffendorfers are there. Try this website: www.rootsweb.com/~wigenweb/dunn/tiffany01.htm I know these aren't the census records, but maybe will help. If you are reading census records for Dunn Co., look for Connorsville residents under Town of New Haven.
