I never knew of my g-grandfathers birthplace. All I knew was that he was born in 1824 in PA. I don't know of any siblings but Daniel is on all of the state census during the same time Henry Moyer's family traveled and I have kept him in mind. I met someone over the net who is related to Daniel Moyer from WI. They have a handwritten letter from an ancestor stating our name was changed from Meyer to Moyer because there were too many Meyer's at the time. Thank you for providing me with a lead on Henry's birth place, that has taken me several years to crack! If you type in Henry Moyer & Sophia Keck on ancestry.com's family tree search you'll pull up everything I have on my line. All of Henry's kids and some of their children. My g-grandfather is Andrew Jackson Moyer Hope to hear from you soon! Feel free to email!

According to the book "Where the wild rice grows" by Lynch/Russel, 1996 Pg 113-114 describe seveal cigar factories in Menomonie history. A paragraph in this book speaks of the names you mention. "By the 1920's the only competition for the Anderson Bros. were a pair of former employees, Reine Breitzman and Al Plutshack, who ran the Menomonie Cigar Factory on the 3rd floor of the old Carroll Lucas building, 420 East Main street. They continued to operate until 1955 producing a local favorite, the Havana Crook cigars. Some of the other brands manufactured by local cigar factories included the Menomonie Club, the A&B Cigar, and the Wakonsa. Much of the tobacco used as wrappers was raised locally in the Colfax area." I hope this helps and is new info to you. There are still Briezmans in Menomonie and Eau Claire area. They were a and are a huge family. Somewhwere I do have family tree info on this family. Mary, I read with interest your comment about your working on civil war vets. I have been told that my step-grandfather may have had a brother who was in the Civil War. My step-grandfather emigrated in 1868 according to the 1920 WI Dunn Co Census. Unfortunately his last name was Johnson (or could have been Johanneson). Their mother was Christina, which also had numerous spellings and she, too, used the last name of Johnson. I know it's a very long shot, but do your civil war records tell the name of the parents of the soldiers? I've pretty much given up trying to find this brother, if he existed. I haven't had a lot of success finding this family on the 1865 census in Norway, either. My roots are in Prairie Farm, WI which is very near the Dunn Co line, but in Barron Co, that's why your research sounds intriguing. Is it on microfilm and can it be purchased? Thanks for any help you can provide. Kat 3petes@chibardun.net wrote:This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
