    3. Thank you Mary for the d.c. information. I really appreciate your help. Major McKinley BEST proves to be one of my extended family. Socrates T. was one of several brothers including Lycurgus C. (father of Alonzo), Alexander H., Solon P., John Nelson (my line), Edward T., and Rosewell that died young. Socrates T, Solon P, John N, and Edward T. all served in the Civil War. I have some National Archives papers, copies of several discharges including an original for Solon and other items. What may I do to help you? Unfortunately, I am on a trip for a month, and that material is at home. I believe I have a picture taken the day of the sale at the church in abt 1962. The old church after being sold, was used for hay storage for many years. Last year my cousin and I went to Menomonie to see it and it had been torn down. A gal living next door to it had a couple of pictures that had been taken when the blg was standing. I took digital pictures from her pictures. The research center at Menomonie has the cemeteries and who is buried there. The lists aren't complete as the information was taken from headstones. The Dunkards didn't use many headstones, so even though we know somebody is there, they don't show up. I am doing research in that area myself now. You may try emailing Kevin at the research center in Menomonie and ask him to look. I believe his email is thoriek@stout.edu. My email is egroth@cannon.net. If you would like to communicate with me and send me! your email, I will see what I can do to help you out.

Their son was WILLIAM A BLODGETT. He married EUNICE FLINT Feb 18, 1880 in Dunn County. Eunice was my GGmpa's sister. William & Eunice had 7 children together. One was a son that died in infancy. There was also BESSIE, ROY, EMORY, CLARE, DEANA, VELMA. I have no further information on any of them other than that Aunt Eunice was born in 1859 in Wisconsin. In their marriag notes I have, "'William Blodgett, a house painter who later went into the ministry of the United Bretheran Church, serving in Oregon. Children: son died as a baby, Bessie, Roy, Emory, Clare died in World War I, buried in France, Deana. Last not heard from after about 1930. Velma, stepdaughter." I've also added to my notes on Aunt Eunice, "FTW files show the birth date as 'abt 1859' and the Family Line 1-(28-29) sheet shows 1859. I have chosen to remove the 'abt'" Thanx again and feel free to email me direct, if you wish.

    1. Re: [DUNN] Pineries in Dunn County?
    2. Nancy Schroeder
    3. The pineries were the forested lands that were owned by the lumbering companies. If he lived at Menomonie he likely was employed by Knapp, Stout & Co., working in the forests cutting trees, getting them to the rivers so they could float the logs to Menomonie & the holding area in what is now Lake Menomin where they were then processed into marketable lumber at the sawmills. Or he could have been a cook, etc., still working in the pineries. The cutting of the trees was done in the winter so they could be hauled on a sled or a motorized tractor to the rivers. Then in the spring the trip down the river would begin, a dangerous journey. My great-grandfather was a machinist at Knapp, Stout & Co. in the sawmill where they cut the logs into lumber. This whole saga is a fascinating story. The term "pineries" was not widely used outside of the old lumbering areas. So Louis likely died in the north woods somewhere. The Area Research Center at University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie is a great source for background materials on the logging era in northern Wisconsin. Nancy

It is called Irvine Creek Cemetery. I have family buried there and have been to the cemetery. It is on a pretty steep hill and a lot of graves aren't marked. The old Dunkard church was at the top of Gypsy Hill. It was used for hay storage, but now has been torn down. I have a couple of pictures of the old church and can probably find the directions to the cemetery.
