So, we know that the Jacob C Carey in Dunn County is the correct person from Land records and from the marriage to Eva Mary Claire. And we have info from other relatives that he was possible born in NY or Penn and also that his Fathers name was possible William John Carey with his mother being possibly first name Mary. But, the Jacob (Father) in Penn is probably not Jacob C's father as that Jacob stayed in Penn and my Jacob, although married once before in Penn only had 1 child with that spouce, as told. And she thought Jacob C Carey had been killed in the war and so, re-married after some time. When Jacob C returned from the war she was surprised he was still alive. Jacob figured she had started a new life and left PA. Where he exactly went next were not sure of, except he made it to St. Crois County and then married Eva Mary Claire and started a whole new life. He bought land in Dunn County and resided there and started a new family as that is the Family Farm my husband remembers that his grandfather farmed on George Martin Carey, who is Jacob C. Carey's son. Hope this is all making sense. So, I have been looking for William John Carey and wife Mary. But, I am not finding anyone by that name. They were to have come over from Ireland in the earlier 1800's. And Jacob C either came with them from Ireland and his brother John Carey. Or they were born in Binghamton, NY. Now the father's name William John could be wrong and the mother, I am not sure. Anyway I am hoping a death certificate or civil war certificate might help to solve this. But I sure thank you for all your help and appreciate it. If you find anything else please let me know.

And that he may have been married before Eva in Penn. But the big questions is who were his parents and where did they live or come from. So, if anyone has information or where I can find it I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Sue Carey

The family of G.H. Ordemann, (painter) did not include Thomas. On the Manifest for the family there are listed his spouse, Catherina and seven children: Friedrich Wilhelm, Johanna Magdalena (the person I'm interested in), Metha, Gerhard, Gottfried, Conrad and Anton. I expect more children may have been born in the USA (Frederic?), but where does Thomas fit in? Did I miss him? If he was born in 1851 he should have been on the ship...or is he Conrad (age 2 upon arrival) with a name change? Adoption? Or is it the wrong family entirely? Would appreciate enlightenment as I'm not an expert in these things.

No. I don't have much more information...but I intend to work on it. Charlotte Dora Goerke and Robert Deloss Cummings are my grandmother's grandparents. My grandmother didn't know them well, so she can't help. (She's 90 years old now.) Shiloh sent me a birth certificate for their son, Robert Carl Cummings, which I needed. Fortunately, I can manage some in German (my mother is from Munich) but the old script will be difficult. I may have to get my mother to help read it when I get some research going! I hope to at least find birth records...I was told that Johanna was from Bremen. Hopefully, the war didn't get everything burnt up! I don't know much about the Ordemanns. I do know that the Goerkes settled in the Olympia area of the State of Washington (south of Seattle). Johanna lived there with Wilhelm. Apparently, she was home for a visit to Wisconsin when she died. The Goerkes had a number of sons, but only one or two married and had children. Speaking of German research...have you ever heard the name "Lettenmayer"? My mother's mother was Mathilde Lettenmayer (1892-1971...married Romanus Greif in Munich) and I SHOULD be able to find the family...she was the youngest of 20 children, 17 of whom were boys. However, I don't have anything to go on...

I found some interesting references to them all in old copies of the Dunn County News. It had something to do (this was about 5 yrs ago and I haven't worked on it since) with Johanna and a change of guardianship. I was a little confused but it seemed that Johanna was either orphaned and placed with this person (an uncle I think) or that she was a single mother and placed her child with this person. I found it in bits and pieces of several community posts and never got to finish reconstructing the scenerio. I might have to start doing genealogy again because I get so excited just thinking about it but I am a single mom to 4 kids, kindergarten and younger so time is scarce....hmmm they are old enough to make their own meals and keep themselves busy for 3 hrs a night right?
