    3. In case, you havent heard, The Parade was in Knapp, Dunn County, Wisconsin . I have poor , but real pics of the store in 1919. Under the picture is typed: " Racket St6ore- 1919- Adolph R. Olson purchased the Lepley Store in 1916 and ran it until 1921. This view shows the new bank building, the old post office building, P C.Hanson Store. the Austin Store and the Pritchard Store. Also a pic. Of the store at Christmas time 1914. Called Lepley's Racket Store. Let me know if you would like copies. Altho you may have the real pics & just not the labeling. ----- Original Message ----- From: <bentneck@wwt.net> To: <WIDUNN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 25, 2004 7:20 PM Subject: [DUNN] Racket Store in Knapp > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Johnston > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gFC.2ACI/1579 > > Message Board Post: > > I have just came into possesion of some pics of my Grandfather,John Johnston. One of the pics shows John and a team of horses pulling a float with the sloagan " The Liberty Bell Proclames Liberty From High Price at The Racket Store", note the misspelling. On the back it says "John was one of the floats in the Knapp St. Fair". Another pic shows a group of people standing outside a store that I believe says Lelepley Racket Store, but it is very hard to make out. > I am trying to date these pics, and I am guessing that they are around 1918 to early 1920's. Any help on a date, or a location for the store would be greatly appreciated. Surnames: Ordemann, Goerke Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/gFC.2ACI/457.3.1.4 Message Board Post: I gained access to the "Germans to America 1850 to 1874" passenger lists and did a search. I looked at every record for the surname "Ordemann". There is only ONE Johanna Ordemann and the birth date would be correct...so this is a possibility. This Johanna arrived with her family: Manifest Number 00007591 Arrived in New York 10 Sept. 1853 Ship: "Diana" Embarked from Bremen, Germany Purpose for Travel: Staying in the USA Ordemann, G.H. age 40 "Painter" Ordemann, Catherina age 38 "wife" Ordemann, Friedrich Wilhelm age 14 Ordemann, Johanna Magdalena age 12 Ordemann, Metha age 8 Ordemann, Gerhard age 6 Ordemann, Gottfried age 4 Ordemann, Conrad, age 2 Ordemann, Anton, age six months I looked at the census records from 1870 but found no Ordemanns. I did find a Gerhart and Katherine Ordemann in the 1880 census in Menomonie, Dunn County, Wisconsin. Their ages fit. He is listed at age 67 and working in a paint shop. The record says that he is from Prussia and so are his parents. Katherine is listed at age 65 and BORN IN FRANCE (could be the border area?)...her father being born in Brunswick (I believe that's Braunschweig?) and mother born in ENGLAND. !!!!!!! I also found ONE record for a Wilhelm Goerke (Johanna Ordemann's husband) in the Passenger and Immigration Lists: New York 1820-1850. Goerke, Wilhelm age 22 Port of Departure: Hamburg, Germany Country of Origin: Deutschland Family ID: 250270 Ship Name: Genio Port of Arrival: New York Date of Arrival: 16 Sept. 1846 Looks like Wilhelm came to America without other family members.
