I have two other Harold Linds in my files, censuses, death certificates, obits for him and family members, false leads all of them. I wonder why the name change ... perhaps his work? Sorry to have kept you up at nite chasing Harold, but it was worth it for me! I live outside of Washington, DC and would be pleased to check out something for you ... all the censuses are at the National Archives, incl. the 1930. I can look up City Directories for many cities in the U.S., altho I've only looked up Mpls and LA; I was going to try Superior and Duluth on my next trip down. Obits from many of the larger papers in the U.S. And, we have the DAR library + the Library of Congress. Let me know if I can help you. I expect to go down there next week. I found Harold's death certificate on file at Douglas County Court House, indexed in volume 53, on page 93. It reads: Harold V Lynn/aka Lind Residence: 1415 Broadway Street White-Widowed-Male-Age 72 Born: 30-Jun-1896, Minnesota Died: 19-Aug-1968, Superior, WI SS# 391-10-0918 Occupation: Special Agent, Great Northern Railway Father: August Lind Mother: Anna Gustafson Cause of Death: Rhabdomyoma- SQ Cell CA of Palate & Larynx Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, WI Undertaker: Downs Funeral Home Information provided by: Curtis Lind, Oregon, WI It gets better. They will find it for you. I had a lot of fun with this hunt. I also found in the City Directories that they lived at 1915 Lackawanna Avenue from 1936 until 1944. Harold's occupation: ruler Mast Printing Co., until 1944 when he was listed as "Patrolman" They then moved to 1226 Birch Street, and remained there from 1946 until 1955. Harold's occupation: Police Great Northern Railway Mdse Dock In 1957 or 1958, they moved to 1415 Broadway Street. In 1929, there was this entry: Lind, Harold hlpr 216 39th Avenue E (I think this is the same man, before he changed his name. The Helper occupation is a beginning railroad job. 39th Avenue runs close to, and parallel to the Burlington Northern(formerly Great Northern) taconite facility in Allouez. I do know that he married Esther Johnson; Esther was about born about 1901 so Harold may have been born at the same time or earlier. Esther Johnson was born in Minneapolis. Esther and Harold lived in Superior, WI in 1944, according to an obituary of Esther's mother. Esther and Harold had one child, Curtis, possibly born in the 1930's. Curtis may have been a policeman, maybe in Duluth. Is Lackawanna Ave. a short street so you would have possibly known all the people? Jim Thompson

I wish I could take you up on your so very kind offer to search at the Courthouse for me, but unfortunately I have no idea when, or indeed who for that matter, a Vinette died in Douglas County. I just recently found a Marriage Certificate for a relative from Superior, and I'm just guessing that they also died in Douglas County. I will contact the Register of Deeds and ask them to check for me, with the best estimate of dates I can come up with. I live in Waukesha County, so scanning the newspaper is out of the question, unless by some chance the Milwaukee Public Library should have microfilms of the Evening Telegram. I'll have to give them a call. Thanks again for you generous offer of help! Kathy

In Superior alone, there are Calgary, Graceland, Riverside, St. Francis Xavier, Nemadji, and Greenwood. There also used to be an Indian Burying Grounds, but they have relocated all those graves....and this is a SMALL town. I would suggest looking for a death certificate at the County Court House, or an obituary in the Evening Telegram Newspaper, at the Superior Public Library. If you have an approximate date of death, I can scan the indices at the court house, or I could check the City Directories at the Library. Scannin through newspaper microfilm is too hard on my eyes, unless you have a month and year. Let me know, and I will search for you. Otherwise, the girls in the Register of Deeds office here are wonderful. Send them a letter requesting a record. They will look, and copy for a fee.
Kathy, Go to the Douglas County page and on the left side is a list with the word cemeteries, click on Cemeteries and a list of cemeteries of Douglas County will come up. A few have been indexed and you can just click on them for a list of names. Please note that these are not all of the cemeteries in Douglas County. But it is a place to start. You may want to post the full names of the people you are looking for and time period, many have been helped by just posting the full names.
