If you are going to the courthouse I would be crazy with delight if you would look up my great grandfather in law. He is James Bracher born 1869-1870 I'm not sure exactly. He was supposed to be born in Minnesota Point or Bayfield with mother part Indian. He was in the orphanage/school in Bayfield and then showed up in Green Bay in the 1880 census at the age of 10, working as a laborer with a Mr. Smith and his family. If there is fee let me know. You don't know how I have looked for records and can't find anything. I have tintype pictures of him as a child and a photo of him as an adult. Thank you so much if you do search for me. Mom, I just got a copy of your response to this posting. I'm glad you looked through these. I read this one and didn't even connect it to our family. Sounds like there is a good chance that there is a connection. I'm anxious to see what this individual's response is! By the way, I was just on the Douglas Count historical society's website. They are moving out of the Old Post office into another building. I don't know if you would even be able to get the book that I asked for due to them moving. I don't know exactly when they are moving. Fairlawn may also have the book. There is a great book called "Pioneers of Superior, Wisconsin" by Ronald V. Mershart that may be of help to people researching early settlers of Superior. It is a directory of early settlers of Superior, and this is what it says about using this directory; "an alphabetical listing of some of the peoples who settled in Superior, Wisconsin, and environs in the thirty-year period from the founding of the town as the first settlement at the western end of Lake Superior, that is from 1853 to 1883". EXAMPLE: This book has the name of--- Cadotte, Augustus (son of Benjamin C.; b, 1830, d. 1878) here winter 53-54 Eye... p 54 Douglas pty Hayes census 6-1-55 (1860 cen a 30 laborer -- WI as "Austin" m Isabel 23 -- WI w Cecile 5, Benjamin 3--WI, Elizabeth 1 -- MN) (twn census 11-1-78 3 in household) (1880 cen a 52 widower w Hattie 5, Kate 3-- WI) There are (16) sixteen Cadottes listed. The intro explains all of the abbreviated terms, newspaper, census, or book, or microfilm. You can purchase this book from the Douglas County Historical Society, 1101 John Ave., Superior, WI 54880, Phone 715-392-8449, or at www.douglashistory.org. I am not sure of the price of the book, but I think that it is posted on the DCHS web site. Mr. Mershart also wrote "They Remembered Superior" and also has a new book coming out soon called "Frontier Village", these books are great for those who are researching the region and early settlers. They do not have all early settlers, but many. The Superior Public Library should have copies of these books for reference. Hope this helps some of you out there find more information on those you are looking for in the early years.
I will be going to the Superior Library on Thursday. I will look for anything I can find there. I have run across that name several times during my own research, as I am looking for a Gus Cadotte,(b.@1828). Also, I can stop by the Court House and look for a certificate. However, that date is very early, and I may not find anything there. I will let you know the results of my search on Thursday or Friday. ----- Original Message ----- From: <connie_g@hotmail.com> To: <WIDOUGLA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 17, 2002 3:27 PM Subject: [WIDOUGLA] Lookin for Death Record > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Cadotte, Legault > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZFC.2ACI/589 > > Message Board Post: > > Person: Benjamin Cadotte > Died: 15 October 1858 Superior, Douglas County, WI. > > Does anyone know how I can find a copy of his death certificate or record of death? > > > ==== WIDOUGLA Mailing List ==== > Douglas County web site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~widougla/ > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >

My grandmother Elizabeth Susan Soyring (Siena Perala) never talked about her mother. All I wanted to know the birthdate, date of death of Mary Davidson. I found her name in the l920 census and was surprised she was living. Grandma said she died from the flu, is that true? My mother has talked about the Davidson farm and the windmill. If you have more information of Mary Davidson, that would be wonderful. Then I can tell my aunts what I have found. Thank You, again. Lorraine Chambers
