I am coming up empty-handed here in my search to place a relative in the correct Cole clan in the Town of Oak Grove in the 1860-1890 time frame. I went to the cemetery where she is buried, (Oak Grove Cemetery), but there are a number of other Coles there and I am not sure IF they are all related or not. Here is what I have: Harriet Cole was born 25 Dec 1833 in New York (this coming from headstone, Census records, and death record of their daughter). She married Marvin Matthew (sometimes seen Matthew Marvin) Goff who was born in Herkimer County, NY on 5 Jan 1826. It is unknown where they married, but I would hazard a guess (because of the birthdates of their children) that it was in Wisconsin - but I have not found any proof as of yet. (Harriet & Marvin had 3 children - Mary, who died @ age 7 in 1859 - Susan Medora, never married, 1858-1926 - and Wilder M, never married, 1870-1940. in the 1880 Census, there are a number of Cole households in the area surrounding Oak Grove - but what ones are related? I have my suspicions that John Cole (and wife Sarah) who has 3 children in 1880 (Eddy, Bertie and Bertha) may be a brother. I have not found any obit for Harriet yet, and her husband's was pretty bland and basic without much familial fanfare. I *did* however find a blurb when daughter Susan died in May of 1926 that picqued my curiousity more than a little..... From the Beaver Dam Citizen, Saturday, May 15, 1926: "HORICON -- The following out of town people attended the funeral of Miss Susan Goff....." and goes on to list the following people: Mr & Mrs Bert Cole of Gillette, Wis (my guess is that this is a son of John & Sarah Cole from 1880 census - possible nephew of Harriet Cole Goff) Mrs Rose Vroman & son, Oconomowoc Mrs Rose Clough & daughter Mr & Mrs Guy Wilson Mr & Mrs Arthur Wilson George Wilson & family Mr & Mrs Ed Cole of Oak Grove (I believe this is another possible nephew of Harriet Cole Goff) Mr & Mrs Ray Andrews Fred & Herman Lentz & families Casper Kasten & daughters Eli & Fred Keel of Lowell E J Tyler, Chicago (Elon J Tyler was cousin of Marvin Goff, Harriet's husband.) Mr & Mrs E T Freeman & daughters of Milwaukee Do ANY of those names listed jump out at anyone? Please contact me if they do - this is one huge headache I would like to put behind me. Mel
