    3. Finding information about one of Dodge County's most famous couples should not be difficult. George Warren owned the Laurel Hill Farm upon which he raised blooded horses and a stately home that cost $16,500 to build in 1868. He was a lumber magnate, and indeed, has a village (Warrens) named after him in the area of Wisconsin from which he drew his wealth, in Monroe County, and where he also owned the bank. There is a lengthy biography concerning George and Mary in the 1880 History of Dodge County, pages 717-718. Since Laurel Hill was a few miles east of the city of Fox Lake, where the Warrens were best known, the historical room in the basement of the Fox Lake Public Library will contain many pages of information concerning this couple - in fact, no history of that area would be considered complete without mention of the people and farm that once sold a team of horses to a president. Mary West Warren was known throughout the state as an outspoken rider on the trail for Temperance. She wrote books on the subject. The Warrens also owned a couple residences in West Chicago. No, they shouldn't be hard to track down. The April 28, 1898 edition of the Beaver Dam Argus devotes a full column to the 50th wedding anniversary of George and Mary. There is also a biography of George's son, Walter E. Warren, including a portrait photograph, in the 1913 history called Dodge County History Past and Present, pages 290-93. The WARREN plot at Riverside Memorial Park cemetery in the city of Fox Lake, has the following entries in the published tombstone inscription index for that burial grounds: WARREN, George 1824-1900 Mary E. 1829-1904 Frank G. 1851-1925 Fred C. 1856-1934 Sarah F. 1857-1935 Walter E. 1859-1905 Matie G. 1864-1952 Have fun!
