I am looking for information on this Oleson family in Wisconsin. From census reports, I am thinking they may have gone to Dodge Co., Wis. If you find anything here unclear, please ask questions or make comments. Dear listers: I just found out that my ancestor's real name is not Ester Thompson. In Norweigan, it is Astri or Astrid Tidemandsdr. Astri or Astrid was christened 31 OCT 1824 in Nord Aurdal, Oppland, Norway. She married Ole Oleson about 7 OCT 1824 Ulnes, Oppland, Norway. Her father was Tidemand Oldsdr. His father was Ole Oleson and his mother was Astri Thoresdr. Astri and Ole had a son, Ole H. Oleson, b Nov. 11, 1849 in Norway. It says on his birth certificate that he died "single." Don't know for sure what that means. Astri (Ester) and Ole had another son, Thomas, b Sept. 10, 1853 in Wisconsin. When they lef Valdres on a ship to the US in 1852, they had Ole H. Oleson, their son, with them, but their other son, Thomas, was not born until l854 in Wisconsin. Ole and Astrid (we call her Ester) live on the Hilmen farm in Norway. Wonder if they ever had other children? Astri, as I stated, married Ole Oleson, whose father was also Ole Oleson. When they married 7 OCT l849 in Ulnes, Opppland, Norway, Ole was 28, making him born about 1821. The marriage certificate states that Astri was 25 at the time of her marriage making her born about 1824. Astri was the daughter of Timand Olssen and Astri Thoresdr. My questions: Is there a way of finding out when Ole was born or when he died? I am guessing he was born about l800-1815. I would love to have the same info on Astri's, Ole's wife. from the 1860 Wisconsin, Winnebago Co.,census: Ole and Ann (Is this Astri?) (she may have called herself Ann in the l860 census) had children: Ole - 10 Thomas - 7 Surn - 4 Juliana - 2 It says all kids were b in WIS., but some records say the eldest kid was b. in NORWAY. Anyway Ole, Jr., and Thomas are the right ages, but Ole, Jr. was not b in Norway, as this particular census entry states. So I don�t know if this is them or not. Thank you. My earlier querie on other websites: Ester Thompson was born in Norway, I am guessing about 1810-1820. Before she immigrated to the U.S. (between l849-1853), she married Ole Oleson in l849, and he was also b. in Norway. Before she left Norway with her husband, she gave birth to at least one child, a son named Ole H. Oleson, born 27 NOV 1849 in Norway. This is all I have on her!!! Once she reached America, she gave birth to at least one other child: son, Thomas Oleson, born 10 SEP 1853 in Wisconsin. My problem is I can't find any census that holds at least all four of these names: Mother: Esther Thompson (Olesen) b in Norway Father: Thomas Oleson b in Norway son: Ole H. Oleson, b in l849 in Norway son: Thomas Oleson, b 1853 in Wisconsin Can you people give me suggestions on what I might do to locate them? What records are in Norway as far as birth records that might record Ole H. Oleson's parent's names? Do they go as early as l849? How do I find naturalization records? Where are they at? (Besides Ancestry?) I have subscribed to Ancestry and several of its packages, but I really hate to spend another $40. on naturalization records and not find anything.
