There is a food and motel place in Beaver Dam, just west of the hwy 151 and 33 interchange. the restaurant is Walker s and has tasty food. The inn is just back of it and others say it is fine. there is a newer motel in Waupun, at the 151 and 49 interchange. I don't know of near by diners, but there are 3 fast foods there , Mc D's , hardee's and a Culvers. I am not sure about the listings of cemeteries, but there are 3 in Waupun, one between these 2 cities ,on highway 151( very new tho, so may not have the history, needed) and one at the same Beaver Dam excgh, only east of the 151 hwy..,, on the hill East and north of the exit. the walkers and motel are west and then are on the south of the hwy 33,Park St ( is the same street, both a hwy. and the city street. there. Am sure of more in that city, but not where they are Juneau is the county seat,, has the courthouse, so it may be a place to start? hope this is a starter for you. Hello List: My grandfather Frank Liebenow was born in 1859 in Hubbard Twp, Dodge County, to Fred and Sophie Liebenow. The family had emigrated in 1858 from Brandenberg, Prussia. The family that emigrated consisted of Fred, Sophie, Mary, Friedrich, Ludwig, August and William. The family is shown in the 1860 and 1870 Fed census in Hubbard Twp. I note that there are Liebenow's still living in Mayville and Beaver Dam. I would like to know how we are related, if we are. Thanks, Wilbur Liebenow
Hello Mr. Rose and list: There was indeed a Phillip Diefenbach who settled near Randolph, Wisconsin. I can offer a bit of evidence to support this, and I would be interested in knowing who the other families you mentioned are, from Niederfischbach, Nassau. Knowing the names, it is quite likely I may have information concerning them, as my research is focused in that part of Dodge County. The 1890 plat map of Dodge County shows Phillip Diefenbach owning 99 acres of land in Section 10 of Westford Township, along the northwest shores of Beaver Dam Lake, including a peninsula that is now named Hickory Point. In 1920, a similar map shows two Diefenbach farms, each of 57 acres, in that same location. This map shows one farm owned by 'George Diefenbach', but the other farm just reads 'Diefenbach'. Looking below at the burials of Diefenbachs in Oakwood Cemetery, one might think that the second farm may have belonged to John Diefenbach, probably a son of Phillip and brother to George. By the 1970's the land was no longer owned by any member of the Diefenbach family, but was by that time subdivided into many small lakeside plots. My Dad remembers buying chickens in the 1950's out at this Diefenbach farm. He remembers old "Liz," George Diefenbach's wife, from whom he bought the chickens. A plat map from that period shows a 63 acre farm owned by 'Liz. Diefenbach,' but by that time, the peninsular part of the farm had been sold. As to where "Diefenbach Corners" was, I don't know. In 1890 there was a school where the road to the Diefenbach farm intersected the main road between Randolph and Beaver Dam. Perhaps it was there, or maybe it was a half mile closer to the farm, where two roads met and there was a Methodist Episcopal church. I'm not specifically researching the Diefenbach family, but a few of them have slipped into my database through marriages, so I am interested enough to gather whatever I find in my wanderings. An obituary for Elizabeth, wife of Philip Diefenbach, appears in the Beaver Dam Argus newspaper on December 27, 1934. I have only a small portion of the article, which says she died at her home in the Town of Westford at the age of 93 years, on Saturday afternoon, December 22nd. I have in my to-do list, a notice to look for an obituary for Phillip. Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin DIEFENBACH, Philip 1837-1910 Elizabeth 1841-22 Dec 1934 his wife Emma 1876-1963 Alvin H. 1896-1968 American Legion DIEFENBACH, John 1859-1930 Margaret 1864-1959 mother DIEFENBACH, George P. 1873-1934 father Elizabeth R. 1878-1961 mother nee KREBS Elmer H. 1903-1952 son DIEFENBACH, Leonard C. 16 Jan 1914 - 06 Apr 1980 son of Geo. & Eliz. Hello List, A cousin in Germany has asked me to find out about Randolph, Dodge County, with specifics relating to people from Niederfischbach, Nassau who may have settled in the area. He thinks a man named Phillip Diefenbach may have moved to the area, with other people from the village. Are any of you researching this family or place? Has anyone knowledge of Diefenbach Corners? Thanks for your help. Ed
I am searching for the burial place of CARL AND JOHANNA LAESSIG who lived in Dodge County, Wisconsin. The 1870 census lists Carl and Johanna Laessig, both age 62, both born in Saxony. It is believed they were Lutheran. Patti Laessig at anaquea@dwave.net
Am new to the list and hope there is someone out there working on any of these families. They all appear in the1870 census. Stephen Southmayd's daughter Sarah m William Sanders and her sister m Myron Patterson. Anyone else working on these? Sally Macias petesal@prodigy.net.mx salpete@yahoo.com
Finding information about one of Dodge County's most famous couples should not be difficult. George Warren owned the Laurel Hill Farm upon which he raised blooded horses and a stately home that cost $16,500 to build in 1868. He was a lumber magnate, and indeed, has a village (Warrens) named after him in the area of Wisconsin from which he drew his wealth, in Monroe County, and where he also owned the bank. There is a lengthy biography concerning George and Mary in the 1880 History of Dodge County, pages 717-718. Since Laurel Hill was a few miles east of the city of Fox Lake, where the Warrens were best known, the historical room in the basement of the Fox Lake Public Library will contain many pages of information concerning this couple - in fact, no history of that area would be considered complete without mention of the people and farm that once sold a team of horses to a president. Mary West Warren was known throughout the state as an outspoken rider on the trail for Temperance. She wrote books on the subject. The Warrens also owned a couple residences in West Chicago. No, they shouldn't be hard to track down. The April 28, 1898 edition of the Beaver Dam Argus devotes a full column to the 50th wedding anniversary of George and Mary. There is also a biography of George's son, Walter E. Warren, including a portrait photograph, in the 1913 history called Dodge County History Past and Present, pages 290-93. The WARREN plot at Riverside Memorial Park cemetery in the city of Fox Lake, has the following entries in the published tombstone inscription index for that burial grounds: WARREN, George 1824-1900 Mary E. 1829-1904 Frank G. 1851-1925 Fred C. 1856-1934 Sarah F. 1857-1935 Walter E. 1859-1905 Matie G. 1864-1952 Have fun! Hi all, I'm looking for information on my gg grandmother Catherine Davis. The only clue I have is from the Wabaha County, MN history that says she transferred her church membership from the Wateloo, Wisconsin Congregational church in 1859. I also know that she was born in Montgomeryshire, Wales in 1825 and camwe to New Jersey in 1835 with her parents. She married James Washburn in Portland, Dodge County in 1857. From what I have heard she had two brothers that fought for the Union in the Civil War, but I don't know their names. Can anyone tell me if the Waterloo Congregational Church still exists? Has it become a United Church of Christ like the rest of the Congrgational Churches. Does anyone else connect with this family? Thanks for your help. Marc Chambers

I have been searching for the death dates and cemetery where Carl & Johanna Laessig are buried. They were Lutheran or protestant. In 1870 they lived on a farm in Hubbard Township, their Post Office was Iron Ridge. In 1870 they were both 62 years of age. To the best of my knowledge they remained in Dodge County, Wisconsin for the remainder of their lives. Can anyone assist me in where I might find this information. I didn't find it on the Dodge Co. Website. Could anyone do a look-up for me? Thanks! Please write Patti Laessig at anaquea@dwave.net
My ancestor Louis/Leo Adler came to America in July of 1870. That year he filed papers in Dodge Co. WI to declare his intent to become an American citizen. He did not remain in WI very long and was in Lucas Co. OH by 1875. I have researched the family in Lucas Co. and can't seem to find any information on his origins prior to immigration other than that he was from Prussia. When he came to Wisconsin he had a 9 month old son, Oscar Adler who did not survive to come to Ohio. While there his wife, Florence/Florentine Sacolowsky gave birth to a daughter-Clara W. Adler on 9 June 1871. Her death certificate said she was born in Ironrich-I think they meant Iron Ridge. Anyhow, this family belonged to the German Reformed Lutheran Church in Toledo and I would assume that they would have belonged to one in Dodge Co. Can anyone tell me what Lutheran churches were operating in the 1870s near Iron Ridge? Are there records available? Glad for any assistance as I'm very stuck on this line, Mindy mshadle@prodigy.net

Passing this along to more lists. Lori I received this message from the Blair list and felt that it is worth passing on.
