I'm helping my wife with her ancestral search and we are trying to find information on Charles H SMITH. Sometime after the civil war (when he listed his address as Arlington, Columbia County) he moved to Beaver Dam, where he is listed with his wife, Lois R HOW and their first three children during the 1880 census. I would appreciate any info on this family. I know they lived here a number of years. They might have lived in Milwaukee in the early 1900s, but they are both buried in Beaver Dam Cemetery. Thanks in advance for any help. Ruben Ayala
Dear Karen, Have you checked the 1880 Census for your family? or even the 1870 census? You might want to contact the Dodge county library which is in Beaver Dam, WI. You need to narrow down the years. I know they have various cemeteries that are indexed but I am not sure about Rubicon. You will have to write them.(311 N. Spring Street, Beaver Dam, WI) I do not think their email is working because it was returned to me. Do you live near a family history center(The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) you can rent films. Look for the Wisconsin Necrology films in the Library Catalogue. These films are obituaries that cover various year groups. I am not sure what newspapers these obituaries are from but it might be worth a try. Hope this helps you, Jane
I am researching a Sonnentag family who were supposed to be living in Dodge Co. I have a Jacob Sonnentag who moved to Marathon Co. by 1900. He immigrated in 1854/55 when he was 2 years old with his mother (unknown name). His mother married Jacob Sonnentag probably in Dodge Co. I show a Jacob Sonnentag in the pre 1907 index who married in 1881 but don't know if this is my Jacob. Jacob went by the name Sonnentag but that was his stepfather's name. Would like to find out Jacob's birth name. His mother was possiby Katrina. Lenora from Wis. If you go to Ancestry.com, you can go to the Wisconsin vital records death index......alsoWisconsin vital records Indexes,Pre 1907 Birth,Marriage and Death Indexes. It is all online!! There is a microfiche of Wisconsin deaths available thru the LDS Church at the nearest Family History Center you can get for 15 cents a sheet. Some Wisconsin county libraries might have these microfiche too. These microfiche lists names, deathdates and other info that you could then write to Vital Records, P.O. Box 309, Madison, WI for a death certificate or go to the county clerk or register of deeds. By comparing the father and mother listed on the death certificates you could find out if they were related. If you have already done this and the death certificates were incomplete then there must be obituaries. There are some films of newspaper obituaries called Wisconsin Necrology that can be rented from the LDS Church's family History center. Go to www.familysearch.org to see which film would help you the most. I put this message in the Germans in Wisconsin list, and I have not received a reply yet, so I will try it here, as both Nicholas and Anton lived in Dodge County. Can anyone help me with this? Can anyone tell me if Anton and Nicholas HAUPERT of Dodge County, WI were brothers? I believe that Anton was born in 1825 in Germany, and Nicholas was born in 1829. Was their father also named Nicholas HAUPERT, or could he have been Peter HAUPERT? Thank you. Kathy Campbell
Dear Sal, www.everton.com might have some ideas. What kind of things are you looking for? Just recently there was a reunion in Indianapolis, IN for everyone with Dillman ancestors. Their plan was to collect everybody's genealogy and make a CD of all th info and then people would buy the CD. The price of the CD consisted of cost of material, postage, and shipping cost. So it was about $15.00. I thought was a fair price. They scanned the genealogies into their computers and then wrote it onto a CD. They are still working on it to make it presentable. I think they planned about 6 months to a year in advance so that people would have time to arrange their schedules. They also talked with a motel where they were able to get a discount for the arriving genealogists from other parts of the country. They decided they were not going to sell shirts and stuff like that because the genealogy is the most important reason for the get together. Hope this helps, Jane Researching: SIMS, SHELDON,DODGE,HARTSHORN,HALL,ROEDL,LANDFRIED, OBERMEIER, DILLMAN,BURNS,GORE,NEWELL,SUMMERS, NELSON,GABELEIN,MCLEOD,OBERDECK AMONG OTHERS.
I've gathered enough names and support to consider a family reunion in the area and I was wondering if anyone had any links to sites to help plan one. I'm hoping to make it a weekend deal, but will probably only be a one day thing. Thanks in advance Sal
Dear Debbie, Forest Mound in Waupun is a big cemetery. Waupun is in two different counties: Fond du Lac and Dodge counties. Even though Estabrooks is in Fond Du Lac it would be worth looking at. You probably could write to a genealogical society in the area and get more info. Fond Du Lac County Genealogical Society P.O. Box 1264 Fond Du Lac, WI 54936 and Dodge and Jefferson Counties Gen. Society P.O. Box 91 Watertown, WI 53094 and the Waupun Public Library 120 S. Main Waupun, WI These may be of help to you. I am not sure about the website addresses for these. Good Luck, Jane
One of our ancestors has been located at Atwater Cemetery in Chester Township, Dodge County. Her husband HEMAN DEAN is not with her. They had a home in Waupun. Does anyone know of other cemeteries near there? We need to know where to begin to look. Thanks, Debbie, CA

Hi! Looking for any info on the James and Louisa STEARNS family. James is in the state census index for Lebanon township (is there anyway for anyone to do a look up of the full record???) for 1855. Daughter Eupha was born in Neosha in 1856. By 1870 Louisa is listed as head of household living in Barry County, Michigan. Have no clue where this family is for the 1860, but originally James and Louisa were from New York. With thanks Sally in Michigan
Hello veterans and newbies of the rootsweb. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 629 prisoners on record from the state of Wisconsin and almost 300 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work. I will also do lookups for any solder from any state . Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. Hi Listers........I have spent endless hours trying to find the parents of my great grandmother,HARRIET A.CHILDS NEWTON. She was from New Hampshire, and married THOMAS L.NEWTON of Beaver Dam.I found her in the 1850 census while she was still single and living in Hanover,New Hampshire. But she was in a Boarding House....no parents mentioned. Harriet was mother to my grandmother,Metta Newton (Barber). She did in 1919 in Beaver Dam and Thomas died the following year. If you have any information regarding Harriet, I would be thrilled.......... Thanks in advance, Judie
