I am wondering if there is anyone available to do a cemetery search in Theresa. I have some people buried in Theresa, supposedly buried in Union cemetery. I checked the Dodge County site on Genweb and also the link to the Wisconsin Historical Society and did not see anything on a Union cemetery. The names are George Gebhardt (died sometime between 1855 - 1860), Marie or Mary Gebhardt (died Feb 7 1897), Carl Wilhelm Schupp (died app.. 1875) , Elizabeth "Millie" Schupp. (died app. 1874). Also possibly a John Gebhardt (born 1848, death unknown) and Anna Gebhardt (born 1856, death unknown). How many cemeteries are there in Theresa? I do know that at one time the Gebhardt's were members of St. Jacobi and the Schupps were members of St. Peters(?) in Lomira. Any help would be appreciated. Sara
Could someone help me find the location of the James and Margaret Deveny farm in or near Lowell Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin on a county atlas from 1870 through 1895? Any possibility of finding a historic photo of the old homestead? Very much appreciate any advice, suggestions or help! >>>>Mark - Columbus, Ohio
Would some kind soul on this list be willing to check for a death or burial record for Margaret Devney or Deveny who died in the vicinity of Reeseville, Lowell Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin between 1870 and 1880? Her husband, James Devney or Deveny, died sometime after 1880. Any help in locating a death or burial record for James and Margaret Devney or Deveny would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Mark
Dear Gloria, There was a fire in 1877 at the Dodge county court house where the records were kept. Beaver Dam Community library, 311 N. Spring Street, Beaver Dam, WI is a library that has many cemetery listings. Give them a call or write them and they should be able to locate your Dodge county buried relatives. This library also has newspapers on microfilm which may contain obituaries for your relatives. If you have not done so yet the Vital Record of Madison, WI would be worth a try. it costs $7.00 for a death certificate or for the search if a death certificate cannot be found.(Vital Records, P. O. Box 309, Madison, WI 53702. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope along with your personal check.) It takes any where from 3 weeks to 3 months depending on the demand for their services. Also you could check out the Waupun library services. They will do look ups for free. email: wpl@mwfls.org Hope this helps, Jane
Dear Dodge List, I would love to have photos of some tombstones in the Lutheran Cemetery just north of Watertown. Does anyone know of a gracious volunteer who would be willing to do that for me? I would be happy to pay for film and expenses. Sincerely, Katherine Bellingham, Washington
Looking for burial and/or death records of Rebecca Everett Knott, Samuel Everett Knott, and Sarah Josephine Knott. Rebecca probably died in 1859, Sarah Josephine died 16 August 1860 (family bible record) and Samuel Everett Knott died April 1859 (family bible record). Burials probably were in Clyman or Hustisford. Possible at Freewill Baptist Church. Would love to hear from anyone having access to these records - I've been searching for them for 15 years. Thanks Gloria
Dear Amy, In 1877 there was a fire in the court house so many of the records burned. According to the book: The Handbook for Genealogists by Everton it says the Register of Deeds has birth, marriage, death and land records from 1877, Clerk Ct has divorce records and court records; Reg in probate has probate records from 1854. You might want to try a newspaper obituary? Beaver Dam Community Library has old newspapers, I do not recall the earliest date. This library also has indexed some cemeteries and has this info on file. I do not have their phone number but you can write them: 311 N. Spring Street, Beaver Dam, WI. Hope this helps, Jane
What year did Dodge County begin issuing death certificates? I know they did by 1900, and they probably didn't until at least 1860, but does anyone know the exact year? Thanks, Amy Moseley Rupp Austin, Texas, USA
Hi! My brother and sister-in-law and I are in the process of writing a DEAN family history book which we will professionally publish. During Veteran's day holiday we worked on editing the text and discussed photos and their placement. Our relative had property in Chester Township in the late 1800's. We would like some photos of that area or of some historical sites that might still exist. If anyone lives nearby and is willing to take the photos for us we would be delighted to reimburse for time and expenses. Thank you, Debbie, CA
Hello Listers: This came through one of my lists(Northern California) and I found it shocking that such a thing could be going on. I am sending it on to you in hopes that you will feel the same way, and sign it and then send it one to others of a like mind. There is NO dignity in a mass grave, and it must not be allowed to happen. Thanks for reading... Searching for information on family of Fred Merlack, etc., whose daughter Minnie married Clarence Krohn in 1916 in Beaver Dam. Have found the name spelled different ways, even on marriage license, social security applications, etc pertaining to Minnie and her children. Minnie states on one child's birth certificate that she was born in Trenton City. Thank you. Verna Banes vbanes@cox-internet.com

Hi David, Thanks for the info...I don't think that they Roger and Harry A. of Dane County are related to the Roger and Harold that I'm looking for... At this time, It appears that Charles (Carl) Frederick Acker (born Augusta WI) maybe my Great Grandfather. My dad's baby book has his grandfather listed as Mr. Charles Acker & Mrs. Ed Winning (I'm told her name is Helen Acker-Winning (nee Hicks). But I'm not sure how much my elderly family source is accurate. The 1920 census has a charles acker listed in Horicon - but I can't read it thru Ancestry.com to see who else was living with him. My grandmother (Florine) doesn't remember anything about my dad's family.... > I am aware of brothers Roger and Harry A. Hello, I am not sure of all the Catholic Churches in Dodge County but in Beaver Dam where the County Library is there are indexes of the dead for most churches. I know of St. Peter's Catholic Church (cathcom@powercom.net) and St.Patrick. Hope this helps, Jane
Dear Lenora, there is a site you can go to on line: www.uwosh.edu/archives you can request a marriage and they will send it to you in the snail mail. The records burned in 1877 so everything before that may not be found for Dodge County. What county is your Ritter family research in? Jane
I am looking for a marriage in 1881. What catholic churches were in Dodge Co. at that time?
I found a Dodge co. Marriage from 1881 for a Jacob Sonnentag and wondered if anyone could check it out at the courthouse. I had heard that the records burned there and there is nothing there that early. Any information appreciated. If I knew if they actually had the record I would drive up there but don't want to if it is not there Lenora from Wis. My relative, Bela Judd probably died in Rubicon, Dodge Co. @ 1865 and I wonder if there might be a will. Anyone know if they had "probate" in the 1860's and if it would be worth my time to search for Bela's will? Anyone have an index? Karen
