PAYROLL STOLEN; AGED COUPLE TORTURED Boiling Water Poured into Victim's Shoes Lone Bandit Robs Jacob Feldman; Roxbury Pair Terrorized; Oregon Man Escapes Bullets An elderly couple was tortured, a Madison business man was robbed of a $668 payroll and an Oregon motorist was halted by ?? in a hold-up attempt as a flurry of crime broke out in Dane county Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Leonard (sic), who conduct a store at Roxbury, were brutalized Saturday night by two young masked men who drove towards Madison in a brown Ford roadster after they failed to obtain the $50 Leonard (sic) had in his overalls pocket. <snip> Fail to Get $50 The two bandits who attacked Leonard (sic) entered his store just as he was closing Saturday night. Both were masked with kerchieves and did not speak clearly, leading sheriff investigators to assume they were local men. The other bandit took a boiling tea kettle from the stove and threatened to pour it on Mrs. Leonard's (sic) head. She pleaded with him and he desisted but the other bandit poured the hot water in Leonard's (sic) shoes. Leonard refused to tell where the money was and the bandit knocked him down again.
