I saw the newspaper article about Ames family on the Rock Co board. The most tragic thing I have heard in a long time! It certainly appears that John Campbell is the father of Milo. In the 1850 census they appear together, though the relationship isn't given. John Campbell was born in Vermont and in both the 1900 and 1910 censuses Milo lists his father as born in Vermont. Did you find the Harvey Campbell in Cottage Grove Dane County? He was born in Ohio. It could very well be that the Campbells are unrelated. It also could be that John is John Harvey Campbell and went by different names at different times. I've got relatives who did that. Later this summer I will be in Madison doing research so let me know if there is anything specific I can look up for you. I haven't been there before so I can't give any guarantees I'll find it.
