Can someone tell me where I might locate published or indexed information on the following records: I'm seeking death and/or probate records for a person who died in Madison in December of 1848, but who was buried in Palmyra, Jefferson County. Birth record for a child born in Madison in January of 1965. Would any of this information be found in newspapers for the appropriate period? Thanks, Alleen-Marie Coke

Death records are few and far between in that time period. They're indexed here: http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/ You might try to find church records of a funeral or burial, wherever the church service was held-- either in Dane or Jefferson County. Probate records were filed where the court action took place, usually where a person lived and owned property. Dane County probate records for that time period are held at the Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison. Jefferson County probate records are held at the Whitewater Area Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The holdings of both repositories are cataloged here: http://arcat.library.wisc.edu/ > Birth record for a child born in Madison in January of 1965. http://www.co.dane.wi.us/regdeeds/vital/records.aspx http://dhs.wisconsin.gov/vitalrecords/birth.htm > Would any of this information be found in newspapers for the > appropriate period? Death notices were extremely uncommon in 1848, but official notices of probate hearings can be found in that time period. Birth notices are common in 1965. Good luck! Kathy
