The following quotes are from a history of the Evangelical congregation that I wrote some years back. The source of the information is from Dane Co. land records. -Sandy Kintner "The purpose of incorporating and electing trustees was to prepare for Saturday, May 21, 1853 when a deed was drawn which transferred one acre of land from Friedreich and Mary Pepper to the "Trustees of the Zion Church" for the "consideration of one Dollar in hand"." "In November of 1878, Mary Lies (Christian Schaefer's widow) sold a strip of land (16 ft X 72 ft) to the church which added on to the east side of the church property . At the same time, the church trustees sold back to the estate of Frederick Pepper a strip of land ( 96 ft X 160 ft) off the west side of the church property .
