Here is what I have collected so far and have been able to verify. Effie's first name is Euphemia. According to her husbands obit in MT. She went by the nic names Effie or Peggy. Her married name was Evans. Effie Maud Boyd married: Howard Earl Evans in Williston, ND. March 22, 1911. My Grandparents married same place March 21, 1912. I was sent a copy of their marriage license. It did not ask where you were born, nor for parents name. So lucked out there. Howard & Effie had the following children: Veronica m: A.C. Gatewood. She died shortly after child birth with her second child. Joseph Dean Evans John Louis Evans Howard Robert Evans Halbert William Evans who died in a tragic accident on: May 31, 1925. I was able to contact one of Effie's grandchildren, who did not know very much, but was able to confirm that my Grandfather Halbert was indeed her brother. His middle name was Patrick. He served in WWI, was sent over to Russia and was part of the "Doughboys". We cannot locate a WWI draft card on him. Mentioned in Howard's obit is Effie's date of death: April 6, 1965. But I cannot locate a grave anywhere there in MT for her. Another puzzle. Also found out thru the Grandson that Effie & Halbert had a brother named Samuel Warren Boyd, I located him in Flathead, MT. He died in 1976. I am trying to locate any surviving family on him now. I asked George if knew of anything that happened to his Grandmother and siblings as children. He said all he was told, something horrible happened. And she refused to talk about it, and warned any of her sibling never to say a word. So everything was hushed up. In every census Effie states: 1910, 1920, 1930. born: CA (it was WI) father: Scotland, mother: Spain. Sam Boyd in all census states: born: WI, father: Scotland, mother: Spain, except in the 1930 census WI same, father: Free State of Ireland, mother: Nebraska. This bugs me. Makes me wonder if he finally found out some information or exactly why the change? We find Halbert in the 1920 census in Kittitas, WA state working in a logging mill. Right after he comes back from WWI. We cannot locate him in 1930, George states, he was living up in Peace River, right above Alberta Canada. Would hunt all winter, canone down to Alberta in Spring to sell pelts. Returned to US in mid to late 30's. This explains alot. Said Effie forced Halbert to buy a farm with her, and to help her raise her children. Some story there. George was really sick when I spoke to him, and recouping for something. I tried to get ahold of him again yesterday, but his wife will not let me speak with him. I do not know how bad things are. I pray it wont get to bad. I still need to learn more info. Another thing to note. We found out that in the 1900 census, in the Jenkins home, Mr. Jenkins died in 1901, hence why she went to the Waite home. George did say last that they put her thru the University of WI, where she obtained her RN license. And Samuel Boyd was said to have been born in Sparta (July 19, 1883), brother to Effie and Halbert. But no one knows what horrible thing happened to the parents that left them orphaned as Effie put it. I would love to find out my GrGrandparents names. I might not like what I find out, but I think I deserve to know the truth. I do not know how to search in WI, as I live in CA. I do not which county I should even look in. Sparta, Dane, Waukeska where that 1900 census was taken? Looks like they moved around alot. Funny thing was, Effie and Halbert never applied for a SSA card nor a drivers license. So therefore never needed a birth certificate. IF any one knows of how I could go about this, without spending a fortune at this point I sure would appreciate it. Due to several upcoming back surgeries and other medical problems I am limited now. I am still trying to find out where and send off for what I know is a sure thing. Many times, I have sent off for things being told they had them, only to recieve a letter back, that they did not have that year. And they kept the check as a research fee. Kind reguards, Martha in CA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
