    3. 'lo, all, I just received this bit yesterday. I'm looking for verification on their marriage, and on children born there in Dane Co. And, is there any information on where in Norway, and when they came over? This will trace all my relatives back to Europe, except those who came over in the 1700s and early 1800s. Great present for Christmas, no? Thank you, Stan B. OLSON, WILHELM b. 02/DEC/1826 d. 15/JUN/1897 buried : URLAND Cemetery, Leon Twp., Goodhue County, section 158 Spouse: ANNA OLSON [Vickie adds: probably not her true surname.]. MARRIED: 1855 IN STOUGHTON, WISC. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

    3. The 1855 marriage records for Dane County show a William Olsen was married October 30, 1855. Volume 2, page 285. A cross index for possible spouse matches lists the wife as Ann Olsen. These marriage records may or may not show the names of the parents. I would have to look at the actual copy of the certificate on the microfilm at the state library. Her surname could well also be Olsen but that does not mean her father's surname is Olsen when you consider the Norwegian system of naming their children. This also assumes that this William and Ann are the same two persons listed below. The first Norwegian settler came to Koshkonong in 1839 and by 1844 almost 800 had come. The first Norwegian minister arrived from Norway. Go to this website to see this information: http://wisconsinhistory.org/wlhba/articleView.asp?pg=2&orderby=&id=8256&pn=1&key=Koshkonong&cy= Click back one page to see a picture of the church. I live near Madison but am not real familiar with the Stoughton churches but I believe the first early church there was a Universalist and the Norwegians started out in the Koshkonong church. There is also an article pertaining to the West Koshkonong Church at: http://wisconsinhistory.org/wlhba/articleView.asp?pg=1&id=8279&key=Koshkonong&cy= which is Norwegian. If Wilhelm lived to the 1900 census it would have shown what year he came here. Did you try for a death certificate for Wilhem in Minnesota or an obit? There is a Wisconsin state census for 1855 which I believe was taken before October, but this census only lists the head of the household and the number or other occupants, no names. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stanley M. 3. Stan, Wilhelm/William OLSON (aka: Wilhelm Olsen DAHLE) 1826-1897 emigrated in 1849 from Søndeled, Aust-Agder, Norway. On Oct 30, 1855 he married Anna Olsdatter STRØMME 1836-1909 (aka: Anna OLSON) who had emigrated in 1844 from Vinje local parish, Voss, Hordaland, Norway with her parents and several siblings. Wilhelm & Anna OLSON family is described on page 252 (ref. no. 1849:3402) in the book "Norwegian Immigrants to the United States, 1849 - Vol.4" by Gerhard B. NAESETH and Blaine HEDBERG. I can send image of page, if you're interested. Last year I accompanied a g-grandson of Anna's sister Guro 1830-1882 (m.t. Ole TORGERSON 1826-1898) back to his ancestral farms in Voss, incl. the STRØMME (now: STRAUME) farm. I have several pictures from the visit there. In addition, I also have much info on their sister Steinvor 1824-1907 (Mrs. OUVERSON) and her family. Kind regards, Viggo M.
