I'm trying to remember the name of the man who took many family pictures in the late 1800 and I believe the early 1900's. They were usually standing in front of their homes. You may be able to find a copy of "Settlers of Dane County - The Photographs of Andreas Larsen Dahl", by David Mandel, and published by the Dane County Cultural Affaairs Commission in 1985. It was available at a number of Dane County libraries if you are in the Dane County area.
