Hi all. I just recenlty acquired a family bible which apparently belonged to Wilhelm Schumann, born 1841, and his wife, Maria. In the ancestry family trees I see this Wilhelm listed as William. The bible lists him as Wilhelm. This is a German bible. The names and birth dates of Wilhelm, his wife, and their children are recorded inbetween the old and new testaments. There is also an old letter that was in the bible, which is written in German. This family lived in Dane Co., WI., in Berry. Children of Wilhelm and Maria (all apparently born in Dane Co., WI) were: Ida L. 1868 Oscar C. 1870 Wilhelm F. 1874 Oauline E. 1876 Louise E. 1875 Julius E. 1880 Alma K. 1883 Emma C. 1885 According to another piece of paper with written family info, that was in the bible, there was also a child, Bertha, that had apparently died young. Info I have found on the net indicates that Wilhelm was the son of Christian Schumann, who was born about 1800. Is there anyone here who is connected to this family? Rex Bertram 132 S. I never found out about this family. I kept hitting dead ends. One of the brothers was murdered in 1967 by his wife - they list a daughter who found them, but no name. And I don't have access to the birth records to get her name. Also, the mother & another brother died the same year, but I can't find the actual dates of death or how they died. Hopefully this Lorraine will be able to give me enough info to get me a little further this time. Thanks again!

This is stuff worked on 4 years ago! The only thing I have to add to this Moen family involves one of the daughters of Even & Margit. Hopefully I didn't put all of this is my response in 2002. The daughter's name was Christine and she was married to Lyman Hawkinson. Christine & Lyman lived in Dunn twp, Dane Co. If you check the 1930 census for Dunn you will find them there....Christine's brother, Adolph Moen, was living with them also. Perhaps one of these children are still living and may be able to answer these unknowns. The children listed in 1930 were Lloyd 11, Jennette 10, Larraina 8, Harlow 6, Marion 5, Roger 5 & Donald 2. You might also wish to contact the Vesterheim Research Center & Naeseth Library in Madison, Wis. and talk to Lorraine Hawkinson, their librarian. She is from the same area of Dane Co as Lyman & Christine.....perhaps there will be a connection with her.

I still haven't located actual death dates for Margit or Edward (her son) Moen, who both died in 1935. I think the last I heard, the cemetery did not have the records for these two. I also haven't been able to locate Even's year of death. Their son, theodor was murdered by his wife in 1967. The obit mentions a daughter, but doesn't give her name.

I was finally able to locate the Moen family in both the 1920 and 1930 census records. In 1930 they were in Burke township. Still no info on how Margit and her son Edward happened to die in the same year. I don't even have an exact date - or I would write for their death certificates. Theodor was murdered by his wife in the 1960s - and the obit mentions a daughter, but doesn't give her name.

HI Bill also contacted me directly. Here is what I found. I share it because others may have spotted his question and be wondering about the church. "Hope Lutheran Church was organized as the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Cottage Grove, Dane County, Wisconsin on the fourth day of January, 1854."
