Ole was my great grandfather. Here's an interesting twist. I ran across a couple of old newspaper articles from 1958 & early 1960s about my great-grandfather. When he was young, he and two of his brothers, Knut & Jacob changed their last names to Stolen. (too many kittlesons in Dane County) My maiden name is Stolen. Ole went on to become a Judge in Madison and was very involved in Norse-American fraternal organizations. Knut's son, Amos settled in Stoughton as Reverand of First Lutheran Church. I have often been asked if I was related to him but never knew the connection until finding the newspaper article. After reading what you wrote, I now understand where the name "Stolen" came from. I could never understand why someone would "choose it". (You can imagine the jokes!) Of course I have more details on Ole's descendants if you're interested.

My family line I am trying to follow is Ham/Hamm, Cronn/Cron and Evans. Mary Staley is my 2nd cousin twice removed. Mary's uncle Jeremiah, who served in the Civil War with my great granduncle William Ham, was married to Clarissa Tourdot. If you have any info specifically to Ham/Hamm, Cronn/Cron or Evans I would welcome it! I do have that Charles Tourdot and Mary Staley were married (no date or place) and had 3 children: Raymond born 1908 and died 1964, Myrlin born July 7, 1910 and Clarence Billy born June 20, 1912. If you have additional birth or death info I would also welcome that. Thanks so much for your response. Linda

I had dug around in WorldConnect at the time I first found that Dianna and William had married, but have been a bit busy so overlooked the follow up search. I did check the census recently, both prior to their marriage in WI and later in IA for William but couldn't find Dianna except with her parents in 1880. her son is, for reasons I'm not completely clear on, living with her brother Emanuel. her daughter is married and living with her husband, Alfred Phillip Searles. perhaps I can find an old contact of mine who might be willing to look for her again.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WFC.2ACI/3133.1 Message Board Post: Cornelia, As far as I can tell William Benjamin Golden was the son of Job and Sarah Cooley. These folks are in Ancestry.com's family trees and you should be able to find them. In 1870, William is living at home with his father and mother making tombstones. His wife is Francis 25 b. VT. They have daughter Francis P. 5, William H. 3 and Richard V. 5 months. In 1880 Federal Census, William is alone in WI and has 4 children with him. No sign of Richard. Later that year he married Dian*a Day South. In the 1880 Federal Census, Dian*a is living with her folks and without her children. (I didn't look for them.) William B. Golden married Sarah Emeline Cowles in 1883 in IA (per trees Ancestry.com) They are together until William's death 1920-1930. In 1900, they are in Boone Co. IA and they had 8 children with 6 living. Interestingly, there is another son of William and Francis listed: Nathan M. b.1877 WI. This Nathan Martin is also in a tree in Ancestry.com's database, but without listed parents. He ends up in TX like his dad. (And just where was he in the 1880 census, hmmmm?) In 1910 William and Sarah E. are in Fulton Co. IL. Sarah reports 9 children with 7 living. In 1920, they are in Harris Co. TX. By 1930, Sarah is widowed and living with her divorced son Clarence Glen. So what happened to Dian*a? Died or divorced? Can't find anything online. You need an actual person to check the County records as I believe you requested in your query. Hope this helps. Deb :)

    3. I would check in the area of Oregon in Dane County. I thought I saw a tombstone in the Oregon Cemetery for Ezra Day, d 21 Sep 1882. But from what you say, and another source, he died in Texas 20 years earlier. So I'm confused and wonder if I wrote down the wrong information. I'll be going there again in April and will verify this info. In the meantime, if anyone can clear this up, please do so. 3. There is a death certificate for an August Benter Sr. The index states he died Jan. 20, 1870 in Dodge Co. Volume 3, page 277. Also a marriage certificate for an Auguste F. Benter who was married on June 9, 1870 in Dodge Co. Volume 5, page 152. She was married to Friedrick Radke. Something is in error here as the census was dated July 26. The August Benter I located in Medina in 1870 is married to an Auguste and they have one child listed, a son named Henry who is 26. I did not locate any other Benter's residing in Medina at that time. What page were you able to find them on? There is a Frederick Benter marriage certificate as early as April 29, 1855 in Dodge Co. Volume 1, page 106. Married to Anna M. Becklon. I can look up these certificates for you at the state library. There was a newspaper in Columbus in 1870. Reel No. P28067.
