Hi, In my previous posting I said that if the item of interest was found in ArCat, it was not available for interlibrary loan to any library outside of the University of WI archives. In doing a bit more reading, I see there are exceptions to this rule. Check out this page for more explanations: http://wisconsinhistory.org/libraryarchives/readroom/ Thanks, Peggy Perry -----Original Message----- From: widane-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:widane-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of kokolo@olywa.net Sent: Sunday, February 18, 2007 1:28 AM To: widane@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WIDANE] Where are old probate records stored? You can also get films from the Wisc. State Historical Society sent to your local library if your library participates in interlibrary loan. Some lucky people are in systems like mine where the library system picks up the cost. It is worth checking out. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WIDANE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Hi, Unfortunately, the Archives division does not interlibrary loan to ogranizations outside of the University of WI system. The UW has set up regional archive areas around the state and they only interlibrary loan to those locations. If the item you are requesting can be found in the main library/microforms room, then the item can be interlibraried to ANY participating library. So, how do you know the difference between those that can and those that can not? Check out the Wisconsin Historical Societies site (www.wisconsinhistory.org) and use the online catalogs MadCat and ArCat. If you find the item in MadCat - it can go anywhere. If you find it in ArCat - then it is within the UW system only. This page provides the explanation: http://wisconsinhistory.org/libraryarchives/about.asp Thanks, Peggy Perry -----Original Message----- From: widane-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:widane-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of kokolo@olywa.net Sent: Sunday, February 18, 2007 1:28 AM To: widane@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WIDANE] Where are old probate records stored? For those who aren't in WI, don't forget the FHL in Salt Lake. I recently ordered reels of probates for my Sauk County ancestors at $.50 a reel. It has cost me $35 per person ordering from the different genealogy libraries. I do think the amount they charge is fair, but when you have limited income the FHL is a blessing. Besides, I looked at every name on the reel and picked up a few I never would have ordered at $35. I know that there was a will because his son James and son-in-law John McWilliams were co-executors and probate notices were posted in the Daily Argus and Democrat of Madison from June through August of 1860. Where are old Dane County wills and probate records from this era housed today? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
