Mr. Niclai was born in Roxbury, Wisconsin, October 20, 1858, where he lived with his parents until 1862, when the family moved to Arcadia, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. On December 20, 1882, he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Barlow, who preceded him in death in 1914. The deceased was a farmer, and for a few years conducted a hardware store at Arcadia. In 1915, with his family, he moved to Winona, Minnesota, where they resided until 1919 when they moved to New Albin, Iowa, and he bought out the Petrehn Hardware Store, which business he conducted until the time of his death. He joined the Methodist church in 1920, and was an exemplary Christian brother and father and made friends of all his acquaintances, who mourn his loss and extend sympathy to the sorrowing children. To a deep religious disposition he united a genial nature and was never more happy than when contributing to the happiness of others. Surviving him are two daughters, Miss Auria and Mrs. F.H. (Nettie) Robinson of New Albin; one son, Oscar of Los Angeles, California; three sisters and four brothers, Mrs. John Scholdin of Arcadia, Wisconsin; Mrs. Robert Barlow of Harmony, Minnesota; Mrs. C.A. Kloety of Whitehall, Wisconsin; William Niclai of Jamestown, North Dakota; Peter Niclai of St. Paul, Minnesota; Joseph Niclai of Spokane, Washington; and Fred Niclai of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends. The remains were taken from La Crosse to Arcadia, at which place the largely attended funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church, Rev. Heapin officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery at that place. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Niclai, formerly Sarah A. Barlow, died at the Augustana Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, at 10:30 o'clock Friday forenoon October 2, 1914. Mrs. Niclai had been operated on Monday morning prior to her death and seemed to be recovering rapidly until Friday morning when her strength seemed to fail her and she passed away. Her husband Louis Niclai and Miss Lena Scholidon were at the bedside when the end came. The deceased was born June 4, 1858 at Dane county, Wisconsin making her 58 years, 3 months and 28 days of age. When six weeks old, she moved with her parents to the town of Arcadia, Wisconsin, where she has always made her home. She was united in marriage to Louis Niclai the 20th day of December 1882, to which union were born three children, one boy and two girls, all of whom survive her. She was a true and faithful wife, a kind and loving mother, and a Christian woman who was loved and respected by the large number of persons with whom she had become acquainted in the many years that she had lived in the town of Arcadia. She was ever ready to do an act of kindness and to lend a helping hand, which characteristics will ever be remembered by those who knew her The remains reached Arcadia, Saturday morning and were taken to the Robert Barlow residence in this village from which place the funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Clarke and Rev. Maschman conducted the services at the Methodist church and interment was made in the public cemetery She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Louis Niclai; three children, Nettie, Aurie and Oscar; and three brothers, Alfred Barlow of Canby, Minnesota; Robert Barlow of Arcadia; and Joseph J. Barlow of Spokane, Washington. To the family and relatives we extend our most heartfelt sympathy in this hour of deep sorrow. May the deceased sleep in peace. CARD OF THANKS We hereby express our heartfelt thanks to our friends and neighbors who so kindly tendered their assistance and sympathy during the illness and death of our beloved wife and mother. Especially do we thank the pastors and singers for their kind services. Louis Niclai and Children. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
