Henry Goodenow born in Bergen (Genessee Co.), N.Y. Son of William (G.orC) & E.(O/Q) GOODENOW Living in Montrose, Dane Co., Wi. He was a Black smith Married Alma E. Ellis, dau of Norman and Alma ELLIS They were married in a legal ceremony in Fitchburg, Dane Co., Wi. on 20 Mar 1869. It looks like he put his adopted parents as his parents, if you believe that he is the adopted son that ELizabeth mentions in her obit, which I believe is correct. There is a George Goodenow family in Bergen in 1850. He is a blacksmith, and born abt 1806. Most likely related to William Goodenow. 3. Officers Working on Holdup Clues — Description of Torture Bandits Meager; Seek Payroll Thieves Madison Police and Sheriff Fred T. Finn today were working on several clues which they hoped might lead to solution of two daring bandit raids Saturday, the daylight payroll stick up of Jacob Feldman, and the attempted torture-robbery of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Lenertz (sic), Roxbury. Sheriff Finn had a meager description of the two masked men who entered the Lenertz (sic) store, knocked down the storekeeper, and poured hot water into his shoes, in an effort to make him tell where he kept his money. Crash Routs Bandits Neither the store-keeper nor his wife, who was threatened with the water also, could give an accurate description of the two men because as soon as they got inside the store they turned off the lights. They fled when Lenertz (sic) managed to knock a case off the counter with a crash. <snip> Wisconsin State Journal, 27 Feb 1933, p. 2, col. 3

    3. This website is wonderful if you can get connected. At first it worked, then it didn't, then it did and now it doesn't. I contacted the address on the website and my computer settings are correct and up to date. It appears to me, at least here in Wisconsin, that it would be easily accessed at a local library. If your library is not signed up, a form can be printed out for them to do so and faxed to them. The service is free. After searching for over 25 years I keyed in my immigrant Irish ancestor's name for the entire state of Iowa to locate his obit and my patience has been rewarded. I could not believe I was actually looking right at it. That is a bit of a gray time as to the parents being listed or not... 1860 Watertown,Jefferson Co., Wi. GOODNO, William C.,43, blacksmith, born in N.Y. Elvia A., 39, born in N.Y. Charles W., 7, born in Wi. George B., 1, born in Wi. 1850 Census, Watertown, Jefferson Co., Wi. GOODENOW, William C., 36, blacksmith, born in WI. Eliza, 29, born in N.Y. Now Eliza's obit mentions an adopted son Henry...... Eliza A. Goodenow 1820 - 1891 Another old settler of Watertown, Mrs. Eliza A. Goodenow, has passed to the other shore. Her death occurred in Milwaukee, January 10, 1891, from the effects of a paralytic stroke received the day previous. A similar visitation she suffered some years ago had left her constitution enfeebled and in a comparatively helpless condition. But she bore up under the trial with true Christian fortitude and was always strengthened with the hope of a life beyond the grave where suffering would be unknown. Mrs. Goodenow was the relict of the late Case Goodenow, and came to Watertown, then a mere village, with her husband in the year 1843. She was born at Bergen, New York, September 5, 1820, and was therefore in her 71st year. Mrs. Goodenow leaves two sons, George and Charles, and an adopted son, Henry. For some years past she had made her home in Milwaukee with the first named. Thirty-five years before her death she had united with the Watertown Congregational Church and from that church of her choice her funeral was held . . . The funeral rites were conducted by Rev. J. M. Campbell and her body was committed to the earth in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Case would be William's middle name) Now is the Henry you are researching the same Henry? Also to note, there is a Charles Goodenow that enlisted in the civil war in Milwaukee, was that her Charles, and is it the same Charles that was with Henry in 1870? Eliza and her son George are alone in 1870 census in Watertown, Dane Co., Wi. Leading further credibility that the Charles living with Henry is her son, and probably went to apprentice with him, after the death of his father William Case GOODENOW.
