Would someone be so kind to look up a couple of obituaries for me on Newspaper Archive? I understand if you live in Wisconsin, you have free access through "Badger Link". Carol Decker decker@tiptontel.com
The obit for Earl Elliott in the Capital Times is brief. He died on Nov. 6, 1970 It reads as follows: Earl Elliott, 48, of 1878 Century Ave., Middleton, died today in a Madison hospital. Funeral arrangements were to be made at the Gruber Funeral Home, Middleton. In the Wisconsin State Journal on Nov. 7, there is a more thorough obit. Earl F. Elliott was born in Canadian, Oklahoma and had been a resident of Middleton for 12 years. If you would like an actual copy contact me direct and I can send it. You will need Adobe to open it. marana@tds.net Sandie gc-gateway@rootsweb.com wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: sm2sw > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.wisconsin.counties.dane/5823/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Could some one help locate an Obit For Earl Elliott. It is a news article in a Montana paper about in incident in Yellowstone National Park (which has its own "Grand Canyon"). Livingstone Enterprise, August 4, 1884 The wife of Prof. Wm. Allen, of Madison, Wisc., while at the Grand Canyon, was attacked and fearfully bitten by wild beasts. Her two sons came to her assistance, and with much difficulty succeeded in rescuing her. They had no arms with them, having been informed at the Mammoth Hot Springs Post Office that hunting in the Park was strictly prohibited. She was terribly bitten on her hands and face before the insatiable blood-suckers could be choked or smoked off. Mrs. Allen is highly indignant at the secretary's order prohibiting the killing of animals in the National Park. She declares they ought to be shot, no matter how enchanting their song may be. These were the only wild beasts she encountered during her tour in teh Park. When she comes again she gives fair notice that she will come armed to teh teeth, and will kill every blood-sucking bird or beast of prey, unless the assistants are on hand to furnish them with food sufficient to amuse them while she is tending to! her own business. I keep trying to change my email address on the site and only just saw your post today. You clearly have access to more records than I. I found them in the State Census of 1905, living in Madison, but in 1920 they are in Watertown, where my father was born in 1916. It is the marriage certificate I was hoping would give me needed information. I can't help but think they would have gotten married in or around Sun Prairie, since they were both living there in 1900 and their oldest child was born there, Merle, in 1904. I have a copy of the draft reg for WWI. Thanks for any more help you can offer. Paula Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have been trying to get my email address changed on this website and so only just saw your reply. My grandmother was still Derleth in 1900, living in Sun Prairie, I think. There were two Halbert Halverson born in Whitewater in 1875. In 1900 Census, I have one in Whitewater District 295, enumeration no 101, sheet 4, and one in Sun Prairie, district 1, enumeration 71, sheet 6. This is the one I am a little more sure of, since I know MY Halbert always worked in a laundry. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My grandfather passed 21 years earlier, however, my grandmother has a family tree dating back to some early ancestor's. I also have the Lurass/Johnson family recipe for Lefse-- or as we call it "Buck Skin" I would love to share :-)) Unfortunately, my grandmother's health is not too well.... and some of the Lurass/Johnson family have come to visit! They brought many pictures from the Johnson family in Winchester/Clayton, WI.... however, some of the people we are unable to identify.... I would like to comment that they had a farm, however were amongst the first whom started at Kimberly Clark... My cousin will be traveling to Norway in a few months to unravel some history of the Lurass's.. Please e-mail me to compare notes!
