    3. I spent the day at the Columbia County Courthouse in Portage, Wisconsin doing research. The staff in the Probate Records Department and in the Register of Deeds office were courteous, extremely helpful and professional. I was impressed. Probate records held go back to 1853. The original records are all on microfiche and can be viewed and printed out. The Portage Public Library has a room full of County History information. They also have census records back to 1850, microfiche of newspapers back to 1860, cemetery information. The Library has a treasure-trove of genealogical information. I just wanted the List to know that if they do on-site research in Columbia County, Wisconsin -- they will be pleasantly surprised and the resources available. Colleen Hager City, WI
