Regarding your request for information about the death of Chapin C. Skinner, 1874-1875 The newspapers of the time would many times include at least a mention of a death. Sometimes a cause of death is given. If you are lucky there will be a complete obituary. The State Historical Society (in Madison) has many old newspapers on microfilm. I am not sure where Hampden is located in Columbia County. If it is near Portage, your best bet, in the 1875-1875 time frame, would be the "Western Advance." If you live in Wisconsin the film rental, via ILL is quite reasonable. If you live out-of-state, it is $15.
