Looking for any information on the HELFRITZ surname. Otto HELFRITZ was born 10 Oct 1858 in Leeds, Columbia Co. Father was Reinhold HELFRITZ, mother was Amelia. Must have later moved to Columbus, Columbia Co. because Reinhold moved the family from Columbus to Newburg, Iowa in 1866, along with C.C. Miller and the Lubiens brothers from Leeds. Have been trying to find out more about their time in Wisconsin and where they came from before that with no luck thus far. Would greatly appreciate any light anyone could shed on this. (If anyone is related to C.C.Miller or the Lubiens brothers, I would be happy to share the bit of information I have on them.) Thanks, Shannon Reuss

Hi Everyone------------- Since this is a brand-new list, I'll jump right in with a request for any available information on Nels and Anna Nelson. They were my gt-gt-grandparents, and I know very little about their roots. They were from Norway and immigrated to Wisconsin probably about 1850. We don't know where they first settled in Wisconsin, but their oldest child, Adeline (my great grandmother) was born at Portage in 1852, so we assume they probably settled there fairly soon after they came to America. Nels' birthday is recorded as October 15, 1818, and his death date is November 7, 1890. Anna is said to have been born August 29, 1831, and died August 16, 1886. Both were born in Norway. The 1880 Wisconsin census shows them living in Lewiston Township, Columbia County, with children Frank, Abraham, Morton, Almeda, Henry, and Katie. Children Adeline, Albert, Alvina, and Alma were living elsewhere (Adeline had married John Gulbrandson and was living in western Minnesota). I would be very happy to receive any information on the Nelsons---especially anything relating to their roots in Norway, when they emigrated, etc. If anyone could tell me where I could inquire about obituaries or what church they may have attended-----anything in that line, I would really appreciate it.
