Hello Everyone! I'll go first with the introductions: My name is Gena and I currently live in Dallas, TX. I was born in Milwaukee, WI and lived in New Berlin, Waukesha County, WI until 1966 when my father moved the family to Texas. Some of my favorite memories as a child include going to visit my relatives in Clark Co. My great grandparents were Frank and Dessa Payne SHORT. They lived in Washburn Township in a community known as Shortville. (This was to the southeast of Neillsville). Frank SHORT was the son of James SHORT Jr. and Martha Jane SHOOP. Dessa SHORT was the daughter of Raymond Sylvester PAYNE and Caroline Jane HAYDEN. Frank and Dessa were the parents of my grandmother, Helen SHORT, who married Louis J. MATOUSEK from Levis Township. I still have relatives living in Clark County and some of the neighboring counties as well. I tentatively plan a trip to Clark County next summer to do some digging and searching in the library, courthouse and cemeteries. Other surnames with which I have ties... although not necessarily direct... are: STEVENS, SEBESTA, NEFF, HONZIK, KOTTY, KARLOVSKY, KOHLER, KOLAR, KLANN, IRISH, MEDDAUGH, RUEHMANN, SKALNIK, SQUIRES, TAYLOR, VINCENT, WINTERS... just to name a few!! I am also the archivist for the Clark County USGenWeb Archives Project.
