The reason given was that they were moving because relatives on his wife’s side wrote to them and told them they should come to America because they could earn a good living there. Andreas’ occupation was listed as a linenweaver. At the same time, Nikolaus Kaiser, 32 years old, with his wife Margaretha Esslinger, 37 years old and their children: Maria 4 years and Magdalena, 1 year old, left for America. It is believed that the two families traveled together on the same ship. This family had 200 Taler and their reason for going to America was very similar to that of Andreas and Magdalena’s. Margaretha and Magdalena were sisters. Another sister, Appolonia Esslinger, and brother, John Kaiser, came to America. John and Appolonia became settlers in the Cadott area, Clark County, Wisconsin. Other relatives that had settled in that area were Peter Eslinger (1826-1905) and his wife Anna Esser (1844-1890). Another family, that of Nikolaus Schill and his wife Maria Britten and children Katharina, Franz, Maria and stepdaughter Elisabeth Schaller also left Freudenburg and settled in the town of Ashford, Fond du Lac County, Wis. Later their daughter Katharina Schill became the wife of Nicholas Kaiser, son of Andreas and his first wife Maria. The 1860 Census of the town of Ashford, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, U.S.A. shows the following family: Andrew Kaiser age 44; Magdelena age 38, Nicholas age 17, Eva age 14, Anna age 10 and Magdelena age 8, all born in Prussia; and Peter 7 and Lawrence, no age given, both born in Wisconsin. Magdelena Welcomb age 74, born in Prussia is also listed as living with the family. The relationship at this time is unknown. Siblings of my great great grandfather Andreas Kaiser were Jacob Kaiser who married Magdalena Weber born 22 May 1851 at Unster Stegmuhle on 21 May 1863 at Centerville (now Cleveland) Wisconsin in Manitowoc County. Magdalena was the daughter of Michael Weber and Elizabeth Kaiser Weber who settled in Manitowoc County. Magdalena Weber’s brother, Christian Weber, married Andreas Kaiser’s daughter, Anna (my great grand parents). Another sibling was Christian or Chris Kaiser. Little is known of him or his descendants, only that he moved out west to Spokane, Washington or was it Wyoming? No one seems to know where he relocated or has been able to find a trace of him or descendants. Nicholas Kaiser and his wife Margaretha Esslinger made their home in Kansas. Their family history has been compiled by one of their descendants. Elisabetha was born 15 February 1819 at Fredenburg, and it is believed she died quite young and is buried at St. Martin’s in Ashford, Wisconsin. Lena Kaiser, also known as Magdelena married a Hebring or Hebbring and they lived in the Cadott area of Wisconsin, as did John or Jolin Kaiser and his wife Appolonia Esslinger. *** My great great grandfather, Andreas KAISER was born 18 January 1815 in the Trier area of Germany.
