William Arvil SCHAFER taken from the Pittsville Record, Thursday August 10, 2000, Volume 91 Number 31, Page 8 William Arvil SCHAFER William Arvil SCHAFER, 89, of Pittsville, entered eternal life Friday Aug 4, 2000, at his home. Funeral services were held at 11am Tuesday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Pittsville, with Rev Ralph SCHRAM officiating. Burial was in the Sherwood cemetery. Visitation was held from 5-9pm Monday with Masonic rites conducted by Masonic Lodge 128 of Wisconsin Rapids. Arvil was born Feb 17, 1911 in Bunker, MO to William Calvin and Stella Lucretia (WILLIAMS) SCHAFER. He was eductaed in the Bunker public schools and married Lydia MOELLER September 15, 1934 in Maquoketa IA. After their marriage they lived in Bunker and Harden, Illinois where he was employed at the flour mill. They moved to the Town of Sherwood in 1949 and Arvil then worked in area cranberry marshes, Rockford Drop Forge, and then for John L. Sullivan Construction Co. in Wisconsin Rapids, retiring in 1973. Arvil served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Iowa, was a long-time member of the American Rifle Association, a member of the Sherwood Community church and was affiliated with the American Missionary Fellowship. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by nine children, Nettie FREEDLUND of Pittsville, Calvin (Thelma) SCHAFER of Machesny Park, IL, Wayne (Barbara) SCHAFER of Athens, IL, Lawrence (Janice) Schafer of Roscoe, IL, Alice SCHAFER (Jack LUNDSTROM) of Rockford, IL, Neda (Melvin) JOHNSON of Loves Park, IL, Paula SCHAFER of Pittsville, Helen (Alan) MERNACK of Rockford, IL, Ralph (Dawn) SCAHFER of Spencer; 25 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one brother, John L (Esther) SCHAFER of Salern, MO; three sisters, Mary WATSON of Pekin, Illinois, Ellen (Arvel) LIGHT of Rolla, MO and Carrie (Lowell) WISDOM of Bunker, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia, on Dec 4, 1995, one sister and three brothers. Buchanan Funeral Home, Pittsville, assisted the family with arrangements. Joan M.
