ROBERTS SMITH (Venus - Mrs Chris) Venus SMITH Obit printed in the Pittsville Record, Volume 91 Number 13, April 6, 2000: Venus SMITH, 100, of 3013 West Mann Road, Marshfield, died at 9:45pm Friday, Mar 31, 2000 at Deerview Meadow CBRF, Marshfield. Funeral services were at 11am Tuesday at Hansen Funeral Chapel. The Rev Joe EVERETT II of Calvary Bible Church officiated. Connie KOOPMAN, a granddaughter, served as organist. Committal services were at 1:30pm Tuesday at Mound Cemetery, Pittsville.Venus was born March 20, 1900, in Rock City IL. Her adoptive parents were William and Minnie ROBERTS.She was married to Chris SMITH on June 21, 1921 in Pittsville. She received her education in Rock City, IL. She moved to the Pittsville area at the age of 19 with her parents who operated a dairy farm. After her marriage to Chris SMITH, the couple took over the operation of the farm. They later farmed in New York and then came back to the Pittsville area. The couple farmed there until they retired and then moved to Neillsville (Clark Co., WI). After the death of her husband Venus moved to Marshfield. She became one of the original residents of Cedar Rail Apartments, living there until Nov 1999 when she moved to Deerview Meadows CBRF. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church.She is survived by her children, Ruth (Abraham) CONGDON of Groten, New York, Iva (Gilbert) SCHELLING of Marshfield, and Delmont (Jeanette) SMITH of Brockport, New York; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband in Jun 1975.
