    2. Hi Everyone, In case there are any new subscribers here, just a brief run down of what my entries are. I receive 2 newspapers weekly from Clark Co. Wisconsin (I live in CA). Each has an Old Items section which lists many many names. Because of copyright infringements, I type some information from these and mail them to the list in hope they will help someone find some information on their family. Take care! Kathy STANLEY REPUBLICAN dated March 29, 2001 100 YEARS AGO (March 23, 1901) Anton Garland was nominated for Chief of Police. The position became vacant with the death of John E Moore. Wajech Sowa was charged with the murder of City Marshal John Moore of Stanley. 70 YEARS AGO (March 20, 1931) Mr & Mrs R.I. Roe were honored at a banquet given by the Board of Publication of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America. 60 YEARS AGO (March 21, 1941) Bill Rodiger will represent this area in the state regional oratorical contest. 50 YEARS AGO (March 22, 1951) Niels Christian Nielson, age 91, died in Eau Claire on March 15th. He immigrated to the USA at age 31. Henry Highholt, was reappointed as the street and water commissioner of Stanley. 40 YEARS AGO (March 23, 1961) Joan and Julie Tollefson saw the first butterfly of the spring season last Wednesday afternoon. Action is being taken to raise the legal age of buying beer to 21. City Attorney Harold Fisher is drawing a resolution to raise the age after Chief of Police John Boyce told a group of the troubles resulting from the sale of beer. 100 YEARS AGO (March 30, 1901) A case of small pox was discovered at the Hotel Maine. A telephone lineman named McDermott is the victim and is confined to the pest house. 70 YEARS AGO (March 27, 1931) O.E. Bjornstad's tailor shop was robbed Monday night. They took bolts of cloth, 3 suit patterns, the stock of linings, cutting shears and some silk thread. Mr. Bjornstad's loss is about $200. L.R. Parrish was elected president of the commerce body and Walter Miller secretary for the coming year. Grover T. Place is vice-president and George Engebretson and Peter J. Kot are directors. 60 YEARS AGO (March 28, 1941) Angeline King brought a large hen egg in to the newspaper office measuring 8 inches in circumference and weighed a quarter pound. Semore Nelson, was chosen to represent the local FFA chapter at the Wisconsin Dairyman's Association in Found du Lac. 50 YEARS AGO (March 28, 1951) Edmund Steinmetz Jr, Edmund Amdahl and Charles Thompson were selected to receive the Wisconsin Farmer Degree by the State FFA office. Corporal Douglas Blumenstein, the son of Mrs. Lenarth Aaseth was wounded in action on March 9. David & Dr. A. Overgard trapped a 47 inch, 21 lb. otter. 40 YEARS AGO (March 30, 1961) Gordon Schesel, age 13, was the winner of the county spelling bee. A motorized wheel chair was given to Jerry Waldusky.
