    2. Kay Scholtz
    3. Posted on: Clark Co. Wi Biographies Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/ClarkBios/10421 Surname: SCHOLTZ, ZIPFEL, HOMERNICK, FRECHETTE, LIEDHOLDT ------------------------- Albert Scholtz was born about 1842 in Prussia. Earliest mention of Albert living in Sherwood Township, Clark County, was found in a log lien document from 1876. At this time he was working for a logger in Section 24, Sherwood Township, and signed his name as Albert HOMERNICK on the document. Family stories are that Albert changed his name from HOMERNICK to SCHOLTZ when he came to the U.S. in hopes of avoiding the Prussian draft. On June 19, 1880, Albert Scholtz was married to Bertha ZIPFEL,daughter of George Frederick and Christina (LEIDHOLDT) Zipfel from Township of Grant, Clark, at Neillsville. They made their home in Sherwood Township, Clark, where Albert engaged in farming and logging operations. The Scholtz couple had six children: Albert Jr. born in 1881 (married Theora Petrine); Clara born in 1883 (married William Baker); Mayme born in 1884 (married Albert Gall); Frank born in 1888 (married Arlene Anderson); Ralph born in 1890 (married Clara Gall); and Louis born in 1893 a month after his father's death (married Mary Huckstead). Albert Scholtz died Aug 3, 1893 in LaCrosse, WI, where he went seeking medical treatment. His cause of death was stated as brain fever. His remains were shipped to Neillsville, where he is buried in the Neillsville City Cemetery in an unmarked grave. Bertha Scholtz remarried twice after Albert's death. Her second husband was Hans Tompson with whom she had daughter Minnie Tompson, born in 1896 (married John Voegeli). This marriage ended in divorce. Bertha remarried Henry Frechette in 1897 and three children were born to them; Isabelle born in 1898 (married William Tullis); Anita (born 1901, died 1903); and Beulah born 1906(married Floyd Defoe). This marriage ended in divorce also. Bertha Scholtz Frechette spent the remainder of her days on her Sherwood Township, Clark County, farm. Her sons helped to run the farm. Bertha died Dec. 14, 1933, and is buried in the Sherwood Cemetery with daughter Anita.

That isn't to say they might not be mine, but three Buchholz brothers disappeared between 1891 and 1892 and I've no idea where they went. I only have a wife for one and not a clue as to the names of any children they may or may not have produced - somewhere. I will post your information to a Prussian List I belong to and perhaps that will get the right person's attention. Good luck in your work.

    3. Posted on: Clark Co. Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/ClarkObits/11422 Surname: SHANKS, MCMAHON ------------------------- ---------Source: GREENWOOD GLEANER 4/20/1916 ---------OBITUARY The sad news has reached this city that Miss Mary Grace McMahon Shanks died on the 16th of April, 1916 in a hospital at Phoenix, Az. She was born in Greenwood, Clark County, Wis. June 2, 1887, the only daughter of John James and Mary McMahon. When Grace was but three months of age, her mother was taken home, and about one year from that time, her father died. She was legally adopted by Mr. and Mrs. John Shanks, and has made her home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Shanks always bestowed upon her as much care and tenderness as they would one of their own children, giving her every advantage of which they were capable. When Grace grew to girlhood, she attended High School here, but before finishing her course, she was forced by ill health to give up her work, and upon the advice of physicians, went to Arizona. She returned to this state once, and remained for nearly two years, but was again advised to return to the west. While in Arizona, she completed her school work. Grace was of a kind and generous nature, and in every way displayed the gratitude she sincerely felt for her foster parents, her every act and word indicating that she felt the same depth of affection that would naturally have gone to her parents. Her school life was marked by the number of close friendships she formed, and many will drop a tear of sorrow for the loss of so sweet a personality. Her life on this earth was brief, but in that earthly existence, so much kindness and innocence were crowded, that her going makes a real loss. The funeral and burial took place in Phoenix.

    2. Tom & Kay Scholtz
    3. Hello, To those of you posting obits, etc. to the Clark website and mailing list I have a small suggestion for what ever it's worth. I know people like credit, but perhaps you could put "Subscriber" instead of your name when posting. So many people who are browsing rootsweb and find your postings, are going to assume that you, the poster, are related to this family and write to you hoping for more information from you when in fact you probably having nothing more to offer them on a particular line. This leads them to false hopes, and also will make you have to explain yourself all the time and you are just posting and have no connections. It's just a thought. And once again, I know everyone likes credit. Kay

    3. To those of you posting obits to the website (and thus to this list): If I could make a suggestion, please make sure the obits have a link to Clark County in some way, otherwise I suspect the list will once again be flooded by comments from unhappy listers who do not want tons of email that does not pertain to their area of research. I am sure those obits with a Wood County link would be more appreciated by the folks on the Wood County list and website. Just my two cents worth..... Gena Listowner - WICLARK

    2. Greetings Greg, A site that you should consider is: http://list.genealogy.net.mailman/listinfo/ow-preussen-l The above named site is designated as the East-West Prussian site. This site also deals with the issues and people of the areas that included Poland and its ever changing boundaries. About half of the site messages are in German but the majority of these people can also converse in English. Another interesting site you may want to try is: www.google.com Once you get to the search page of googol, enter your surname of Pabich and see what comes up. And, then there is always the LDS site and what they have online. Many options, many places to search!
