The reason given was that they were moving because relatives on his wife’s side wrote to them and told them they should come to America because they could earn a good living there. Andreas’ occupation was listed as a linenweaver. At the same time, Nikolaus Kaiser, 32 years old, with his wife Margaretha Esslinger, 37 years old and their children: Maria 4 years and Magdalena, 1 year old, left for America. It is believed that the two families traveled together on the same ship. This family had 200 Taler and their reason for going to America was very similar to that of Andreas and Magdalena’s. Margaretha and Magdalena were sisters. Another sister, Appolonia Esslinger, and brother, John Kaiser, came to America. John and Appolonia became settlers in the Cadott area, Clark County, Wisconsin. Other relatives that had settled in that area were Peter Eslinger (1826-1905) and his wife Anna Esser (1844-1890). Another family, that of Nikolaus Schill and his wife Maria Britten and children Katharina, Franz, Maria and stepdaughter Elisabeth Schaller also left Freudenburg and settled in the town of Ashford, Fond du Lac County, Wis. Later their daughter Katharina Schill became the wife of Nicholas Kaiser, son of Andreas and his first wife Maria. The 1860 Census of the town of Ashford, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, U.S.A. shows the following family: Andrew Kaiser age 44; Magdelena age 38, Nicholas age 17, Eva age 14, Anna age 10 and Magdelena age 8, all born in Prussia; and Peter 7 and Lawrence, no age given, both born in Wisconsin. Magdelena Welcomb age 74, born in Prussia is also listed as living with the family. The relationship at this time is unknown. Siblings of my great great grandfather Andreas Kaiser were Jacob Kaiser who married Magdalena Weber born 22 May 1851 at Unster Stegmuhle on 21 May 1863 at Centerville (now Cleveland) Wisconsin in Manitowoc County. Magdalena was the daughter of Michael Weber and Elizabeth Kaiser Weber who settled in Manitowoc County. Magdalena Weber’s brother, Christian Weber, married Andreas Kaiser’s daughter, Anna (my great grand parents). Another sibling was Christian or Chris Kaiser. Little is known of him or his descendants, only that he moved out west to Spokane, Washington or was it Wyoming? No one seems to know where he relocated or has been able to find a trace of him or descendants. Nicholas Kaiser and his wife Margaretha Esslinger made their home in Kansas. Their family history has been compiled by one of their descendants. Elisabetha was born 15 February 1819 at Fredenburg, and it is believed she died quite young and is buried at St. Martin’s in Ashford, Wisconsin. Lena Kaiser, also known as Magdelena married a Hebring or Hebbring and they lived in the Cadott area of Wisconsin, as did John or Jolin Kaiser and his wife Appolonia Esslinger. *** My great great grandfather, Andreas KAISER was born 18 January 1815 in the Trier area of Germany. He is the son of Nicholaus KAISER and Anna Elisabetha THILBURG (or TILBURG). Nichaolas KAISER is the son of Jacob KAISER (KAYSER) and Elisabetha KIEFER. Anna THILBURG is the daughter of Andrea THILBURG and Maria Elisabetha TROUMPH. Andreas KAISER was married on 13 July 1841 at Freudenburg, Germany to Maria KAISER, daughter of Michaelis KAISER AND Anna MAAS. Michaelis KAISER was the son of Lucia KAISER and Anna MAAS, the daughter of Joseph MAAS and Anna HILLENDORF. To Andreas and Maria, the following children were born: Nicholas in 1842, and Eva in 1845. Maria died before 1849. At this time it is unknown exactly when, or the cause. On 26 May 1849, Andreas KAISER was married to Magdelena ESSLINGER at Freudenburg. She was born 9 January 1821 to Mathias ESELINGER and Catharina ZEHREN. Mathias was the son of Mathias ESELINGER and Susanne FAH. Catharina was the daughter of Mathias ZEHREN and Anne WEBER. Anton ZEHREN and Margaretha BOESEN were the parents of Mathias ZEHREN. Anton’s father was also named Mathias. Margaretha was the daughter of Michael BOESEN. Anne WEBER was the daughter of Christian WEBER and Elisabeth LINDEN REIDEN, LINDEN believed to be her maiden name. Christian was the son of Jacob WEBER and Anna Barbara BERG. Jacob’s father was also Jacob and his mother was Johanna MAY, daughter of Mathias MAY and his wife Editha. *********************************************************************************** Anna KAISER, first child of Andreas and Magdelena, married Christian WEBER, the son of Michael WEBER and Elisabeth KAISER. Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/ClarkObits/12083 Surname: BENSLY, GARRISON, NIMITS, SHELDON ------------------------- Mrs Viola GARRISON Obit printed in the Wood County Reporter - Thursday, Jun 15, 1899 A Genuine Woman Gone - Mrs Viola GARRISON of Centralia Is Called To The Palace of Eternity. The last dread message from the Great Beyond, which all must sooner or later obey, came to and was answered by one of the early and highly esteemed residents of Centralia Monday afternoon. To her, however, it must have come short of its awfulness and in the language of sweet assuagement and comforting reassurance-"Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."In very truth, Mrs. Viola GARRISON fulfilled every higher obligation of life domestic, social and spiritual-as completely as human aspiration allows. That characteristic which impressed people, in proportion to their knowledge of her was her genuineness, patience and submissive grace to the powers that control. This characteristic brought with it a beautiful old age, serene in the satisfaction of an earnest force exerted for righteousness that left not even one complaint in the last hours of severe suffering.Mrs GARISON passed away at the residence of her son F GARRISON, at 4:45 o'clock p. m., June 12, following an illness in bed of two months. She had not well for a long time. "Grandma" as we have always felt at liberty to address her, was taken with chills as long age as last October, which developed into chronic jaundice. Her condition was not considered dangerous until the month of April, when she was obliged to take to the bed and the family physician was called. Constant nursing and thorough medical attention, however, failed to bring other than temporary relief. The patient grew steadily weaker until death, except by artificial means. Final dissolution came as the result of practical paralysis of the entire alimentary canal. The mind of this benign lady was clear and active to the last. To the liberated soul only can death appear as "That golden key That opens the palace of eternity." Viola SHELDON GARRISON was born at Fort Anne, on the shores of Lake George, NY, Mar 24, 1821. She had, therefore, reached the age of 78 years, 3 months, 21 days at the time of her demise. Miss SHELDON remained under the parental roof, reared in the usual manner of a sturdy farmer's daughter, until married to Orestes GARRISON on the 30th day of March, 1842. Soon after marriage Mr and Mrs GARRISON moved to Greenwood, McHenry Co, IL, and settled on a farm, which the husband tilled for ten years. To the union were born the following five named children, four of them at Greenwood: Elma Caroline, wife of S S BENSLY, died Mar 26, 1861. Charles B, now a resident of Minneapolis, and with his mother during her last sickness; Llewellyn O, resident of Thorpe, WI, at his mothers bedside during the past week, accompanied be wife and son; Frank, president and manager of the Centralia Pulp & Water Power company, with whom "Grandma" GARRISON has made her home for twenty-five years; Henry D, died Mar 4, 1866.Orestes GARRISON and family became occupants of a house near old Magnolia hall in Grand Rapids late in the fall of 1854, he being owner of the mill (then a saw mill) in Centrelia recently torn down by W. E. Mack of the Central Electric Co. They resided in Grand Rapids through the winter, then went over into Centralia.Mr GARRISON died June 3, 1874, and his wife took up her residence with her son F. GARRISON where she has continuously been at home for twenty-five years. The record of her career during the widowed life is filled with examples well worthy of emulation, with deeds and works that will always stand as texts and studies to the generation that succeeds them. Peace at last.Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, from the F GARRISON residence, Rev F S NIMITS officiating. Remains were tenderly laid at rest in Forest Hill cemetery, the sad service being attended by a large number of citizens who today deeply lament the departed friend and neighbor.

Wi Biographies Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/ClarkBios/10638 Surname: O'Neill ------------------------- >From the Clark County Centennial Booklet copyright 1953 pages F-9 and F-10 To James O'Neill, Sr., goes the major credit for founding Neillsville and Clark County. It is he who, in a small company, investigated the site of Neillsville in 1844 and who led the group that established the first permanent settlement in Clark County the next year. It was a business venture, shared with his brothers, Henry and Alexander***. But it was James who gave continuance to the venture and associated himself permanently with the community. The O'Neills had their background in New York state. James was one of the nine children of Andrew O'Neill, a farmer. At least one piece of farm property continued in the O'Neill family, as represented locally, for more than a century, and it was a pleasant custom of the late Judge James O'Neill, nephew of the founder, to ship to Neillsville each year a barrel of New York State apples, which were presented by him to the pupils of the public schools. In his youth, James O'Neill, Sr., worked on his father's farm and clerked in a brother's store. He worked four years on a lumbering operation in the east. As a young man he set out for the middle west; cut cord wood in Louisana; ran a keel boat for a time; developed ague and was forced to get off the Mississippi. He and his brother Henry established a small mill three miles downstream from Black River Falls, operated there a few years and in 1845 moved their operation to O'Neill creek. First structure to be erected was a log hut 18 x 24, put up on the bank of the creek, near where the mill was afterwards constructed. This was used for about a year. In 1846 Mr. O'Neill built a more commodious house on the south side of the creek, at the location of the present Skroch residence. The old log hut eventually fell into the creek. As a lumberman James O'Neill represented the pioneering phase of the industry. His mill was 22 feet wide and 44 feet long. It was equiped with an "up and down" saw, with a capacityof 4,000 board feet in 12 hours, a drop in the bucket as compared to the large mills at Analaska, which afterward cut up the logs of Clark County by the million feet. The first mill lasted 15 years and vanished; was presumably burned. It was replaced by another of modest size. The lumbering operation was conducted for a decade as a partnership between James and his brothers, Henry and Alexander. He bought them out in 1858, and they set up a mill in Chippewa City, which they later sold to Stanley Bros. During the years of their lumber production Alexander O'Neill also operated a lumber yard in Burlington Iowa, and thus provided a retail outlet for all or part of the out put of their mills. ***Alexander is my ggg grandpa

Various causes combined to defeat the Republican candidates, and for the first time since the orginization of the Republican Party the entire Democratic ticket was elected. Mr. O'Neill is an able lawyer, a public-spirited citizen, and a man of unqualified integrity, and is numbered among the most popular citizens of his county abd State. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Marian Robinson, od Neillsville, and this union has been blessed with two children: a son, Ernest, born in 1877, and a daughter, Marian, born in 1883.
