Based on photos I have of my grandmother's mother (Maggie), she is listed as Margaret, not Katie or Katherine. I believe that Margaret Mahloch had a sister Katie Mahloch. Google Jacob Mahloch for an article about him, and a photo. He was Margaret/Katie's father. He fought in many major Civil War battles, such as Gettysburg, for a Wisconsin regiment. The court house in Chilton has records, many of them are on the Calumet web page, but not all. I also contacted Janice Marone at the deeds office before I left and she dug up my grandparents wills, pretty interesting. The New Holstein library also has family histories, the Kiel library has an index of obits. Do your homework on line before you go, the manitowoc website has Calumet info also, on the glass slides pages, and findagrave.com has lots of info. Many of the churches have records, the records at St John's in new Holstein are not too good, lots of gaps, but the records at the Trinity Lutheran in Rantoul were fabulous (just examples). The only German you need to know is birth, death, marriage, etc and you can read them pretty easy. Sometimes all you need to be able to read is the name of your ancestor, most places had copy machines. The libraries at the university of Wisconsin in Madison and Milwaukee have lots of stuff also, n! ewspapers and state archives, often the county and state records are different. Good luck, and like the other Donna said, if there is anything else, let me know. I don't think we are related. The Chilton library had many of the plat maps and you can find the farms. You can check my webpage http://edwardandemma.com and see if any of your family are there. Donna Hass Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
