While reading your quary, I found that there was an Uebelacker in our relation. My mother was a Katherine Fuchs, She married a James Uhler, I am their daughter. I married a Don Uebelacker who's mother had a Stich on her side of the family. To unravel this would take a lot of time. Just thought I would drop a note and let you think about it. Author: JayinSanDiego Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.wisconsin.counties.calumet/1064.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ruth, Also, Here is a Bio from my cousin Thomas Ryan's History of Outagamie County; FREDERICK M. BUNGERT, an energetic and industrious farmer of Ellington township, who has his property, located on Hortonville Rural Route No. 22, in a high state of cultivation, has spent his entire life in Ellington township, and was born on the farm which he now operates, April 12, 1865. His father, Michael Bungert, was born in Luxemburg, Germany, and came to the United States when about twenty-two years of age, landing at New York City. His first employment in this country was at railroad construction work in Illinois, but he soon came to Wisconsin and became a farm hand, working by the month for farmers in Ellington township. He was thrifty and economical, and by about 1860 he was able to buy the present Bungert homestead, at that time a wilderness covered with heavy timber, but at the time of his retirement in 1895, when he moved to Appleton, he was the owner of one of the finest farms of its size in Ellington township, boasting of well-built farm buildings, well cultiv! ated soil and the latest models of farming machinery. In 1861 Mr. Bungert was married to Hannah Munsert, who was born in Saxony, Germany, and came to the United States at the age of seven years with her parents. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bungert of whom seven are still living. Frederick M. Bungert was educated in the schools of Ellington township, and he has always lived on the home place, with the exception of one summer spent in the harvest fields of North Dakota. At the age of thirty years, he rented the farm from his father, and he has continued to operate it ever since, carrying on general farming and dairying. In May, 1895, Mr. Bungert was married to Miss Ella Peters, daughter of Frederick and Elenora Peters, who came from Germany and settled in Center township, Outagamie county, and four children have been born to this union: Grace, born April 29, 1896; Linda, born May 3, 1898; Roy, born February 23, 1900; and Alfred, born September 10, 1901. Mr. and Mr! s. Bungert belong to the German Lutheran Church of Ellington. Also a note; Michael Bungert's brother John , left the name mispelling as Bongert and his descendants can be found in Wisconsin also with the surname BONGERT. John's info; Born 12/23/1836 Machtum, , Grevenmacher, Luxembourg Died 9/1/1926 Oshkosh, Winnebago, Wisconsin, USA Married Luzia Mueller 6/4/1861 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [WICALUME] New Kiel Image Collection Online
    2. Digital Content
    3. Dear Calumet County Researchers, The University of Wisconsin Digital Collections Center has recently made the following collection freely available online: Big Streets in a Little City - Downtown Street Scenes in Kiel, 1860-1980 625 images, added 10/23/2007 The name of this collection, Big Streets in a Little City, is an affectionate reference to the official City of Kiel slogan, “the little city that does big things.” Located on the Sheboygan River in the southwest corner of Manitowoc County, this city of approximately 3,500 has a thriving downtown, beautiful parks, progressive schools, a strong employment base, and a growing respect for its heritage. The images depict commerce, recreation, cultural events, and other day-to-day activities of the men, women, and children who lived, worked, and played in the same neighborhoods that continue to thrive, albeit in different ways, in the 21st Century. This digital project was funded through a 2007 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant. http://digital.library.wisc.edu/1711.dl/WI.KielLocHist To view other Wisconsin local history collections, take a look at our State of Wisconsin Collection at http://digital.library.wisc.edu/1711.dl/WI/ -- Best wishes, UW Digital Collections Center Melissa McLimans Stay up date on our collections. Author: RPokorny Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.wisconsin.counties.calumet/1063.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I am not related. I think I am on to something with the Peter Henghlster you are looking for, but some things don't add up. My subscription to ancestry.com census images ran out, but I can still access the indexes, and some newspapers. If I am correct, Peter had 2 sisters, Susie and Elizabeth. Susie married Elmer H Ter Maat, and Elizabeth married Peter Dix. I believe their parents were Fred/Alfred Hengstler and Margaret Reiter. I don't know if Margaret died when the children were young, or if she and Fred/Alfred divorced, but it looks like Fred married a second time, to a Mrs. Emma Gerew/ maybe Geroux? in Brown County on Aug 23, 1898. In the 1880 census Peter Reiter had a daughter Margaret, born abt 1867, who may have been the wife of Fred/Alfred Hengstler. In the obit for Elizabeth Dix, it was stated that she was born to Alfred and Margaret Hengsler. I believe she is the Eliz Densler, age 14 (born abt 1891 Wisconsin) Grandaughter of Peter Reuter in the 1905 census, with her brother Peter Densler (probably Hensler/Hengstler), living with them too. In the 1900 census, you found Peter Henghlster, living with his grandparents, Peter and Catherine Reiter/Rider. In the 1900 census, I found in Appleton, Fred and Emma (2nd wife?) Hengstler. There were 2 daughters, Susie and Elizabeth Hengstler, and Benjamin Jeron, son (probably Benjamin Gerew/Geroux? stepson), and Emma Regoline, niece. I lost track of Peter Henghlster after the 1905 census, but found Susie and Elizabeth after they got married. The baffling part is that in Elizabeth's obit, her parents were Alfred and Margaret Hengsler, but she had a sister, Mrs. Jake Lorenz, Sheboygan Falls; and a brother, Patrick McGuire, Shawano. I don't know why her sister, Susan Ter Maat was not listed. Did Susie marry Jake Lorenz after she married Elmer Ter Maat? I did find a small article in the Sheboygan newspaper stating that Mrs. Elmer Ter Maat, Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Peter Dix, Hilbert, went to Appleton to spend the day with their father, Fred Hengstler. In the 1920 census Elmer Ter Maat had a wife Susie, and Peter Dix had a wife Elizabeth. The question still remains as to who was her brother Patrick McGuire?. Hope this helps, Ruth Pokorny --------- Sheboygan Press (Sheboygan, Wisconsin) > 1948 > February > 20 Mrs. Elmer Ter Maat, Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Peter Dix, Hilbert, went to Appleton this morning. They are spending the day with their father, Fred Hengstler, who is observing his 88th birthday today. ---------- Sheboygan Press (Sheboygan, Wisconsin) > 1966 > February > 28 MRS. ELIZABETH DIX Mrs. Elizabeth Dix, 74, of R. 1, Hilbert, died Sunday afternoon at the Sheboygan County Hospital after a lingering illness. She was born April 27, 1891, at St. John, a daughter of Alfred and Margaret Hengsler. She married Peter Dix in 1912 at St. John. He proceded her in death Feb. 7, 1962. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hilbert. Surviving are a son, Victor, R.1, Hilbert; a sister, Mrs. Jake Lorenz, Sheboygan Falls; a brother, Patrick McGuire, Shawano; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Hilbert. The Rev. Alfred Loehr, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Kapitzke Funeral Home, Hilbert, after 3 p.m. Tuesday. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Tuesday. --------- Sheboygan Press (Sheboygan, Wisconsin) > 1962 > February > 7 **In Peter Dix's obit, it is stated that he married Lizzie Hengsler in 1912 at St. John the Baptist Church, St. John.
