I have lived my entire life in Calumet County, and know there isn't any mining done for minerals, the only mining that goes on in our county is known as open pit mining for limestone and gravel. So there fore it depends on what your ancestors were mining for.. The limestone smelting was done at High Cliff, which is now a State Park. All that is left is the General Store and two kilns that have been preserved. Ron

Hi Ruth, I think the part you are referring to that is East of Oneida St. and South of Calumet is considered the Town of Harrison and not Appleton. The part west of Oneida and South of Calumet St. is part of Menasha I think. All three counties meet up at the intersection of Calumet St. and Oneida St. I still don't think Appleton is in either Winnebago or Calumet counties. Athough some of the businesses do have an Appleton address, they are not actually part of Appleton. You will find the same situation when you go over to the Town of Menasha and Neenah. Hi Sandra, I grew up in Appleton and just checked a map to refresh my memory. A part of Appleton is in Calumet County. Everything south of Calumet St. and east of Oneida Street is in Calumet County. Everything east of Oneida and south of Calumet is in Winnebago County. the county seat for Calumet County is Chilton. Hi Sandra, Appleton has never been a part of Calumet county to my knowledge. You can check the website and it does list current and past towns that were locate within Calumet County. I do know that Calumetville, which is now in Fond du Lac County, was once in Calumet County, but never Appleton. As far as I know, all of Appleton is in Outagamie County. There is a small community called Darboy, which is on the outskirts of Appleton that is part Outagamie and part Calumet County. The Calumet County courthouse is located in Chilton. If you are looking for somebody that was actually from Appleton, they most likely are at the Outagamie County courthouse in Appleton. Hi Sandra, The posting below is correct, a portion of Darboy spans both Calumet and Outagamie County. This link shows you the boundaries for zip codes: http://www.zipmap.net/Wisconsin/Outagamie_County.htm I don't have a link handy for the county maps, but you can see that zip code wise Appleton has grown, and for mailing purposes addresses in communities like Darboy, Combined Locks, Town of Menasha etc. now sport Appleton addresses. The newspaper for all of these communities is the Appleton Post-Crescent. As for vital records, a detailed map would have to be viewed to see if the address falls under Outagamie County, or Calumet County. I do know that the people at the courthouses are used to answering these questions, and will be more than happy to steer you to the correct county. Hope this is of some help.
