However, that person doesn't have many, if any, sources listed for validation. I did find a passenger list with Frank (listed as Xaver), Joseph and Josepha, their children: Joseph, Marianne, George and also other Joas': Veronica (age 32), Sebastian (age 14), and Veronica (age 7). Here is that link: http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7488&iid=NYM237_119-0711&fn=Xaver&ln=Joas&st=r&ssrc=&pid=432233 Actually, the line after Joseph Joas on that tree goes back a few generations as well but with the only sources being other family trees. There is another family tree with pictures of Joseph's brother's family and quite a bit of information. Might be worth checking out if you are to renew your subscription. I found that Joseph is listed in the 1870 census married to his second wife, Margaretha, living in Addison, WI. He died in 1878 so that might be the only census where you could find him. I'm fairly certain that all the mix ups of Crescentia are still Katherine. I'm thinking Crescentia was her real birth name (after her mother) and maybe Katherine was a middle name or just a nickname or something. I would love to see those photos!! I love the marriage records which gave me the names of the parents. I will research the parents further to see if it leads to something. With so many different spellings of their first and last names, one must wonder if their accents were hard to understand, whether the transcribers were confused, etc. I never believed I would see variations in Schrieber, a fairly common German name. It also doesn't help the confusion when Henricka Schumacher had a sister named Henrietta. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Your reply is a gold mine for me! I did not have the information on Joseph and Josepha and their home in Germany. Frank Xavier's wife is listed as Katherine in the 1910 census, but elsewhere she is listed as Cresentia (sp). A name that seems to be recurring. The 1910 census says that Katherine had 6 children, only 4 of whom were still living then. I didn't know about Mary, so she must have died before 1910. I see that a Frank JOYCE is listed in the 1900 census in Calumet county (with a wife named "Cracynthia." I am suspecting that this is really Frank and Cresentia Joas and that the census taker that time had really bad handwriting. (I'll check when I renew my ancestry subscription.) Do you know the sources of information for Frank Joas' parents and their other children and home in Germany? I have been focusing on the Dauns (another family in our tree) and will be focusing more on the Joas next. And then the Hemauers! I would love to compare notes. I have a few photos of Frank and Cresentia and some of their children. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I found Katherine Hemauer and Frank Xavier Joas, both born in Germany, married in 1870, living in Stockbridge and having 5 children: Joseph G (1869), George (1871), Mary (1876), Anna (1879), and Rose (1887). What was interesting to me was that I had no Katherine Hemauer in my tree, but I found her parents to be George and Crescentia Leichtinger which are my ggggrandparents! This I got off the Marchant family tree. Not sure how much you know about Frank Joas, but his parents are Joseph Joas (1803-1878) and Josepha Bach (1811-1865). The tree lists Joseph's second wife as Margaretha Blank, but no further children. The family came from Schopflohe, Bayern, Germany. Here are Joseph and Josepha's other children: Joseph (1836-1883) married Maria Lehner and Mary Schue Anna Maria (1839-1914) married Balthasar Theis George (1849-1916) married Mary Hemauer (!) Both came from Germany. Frank came from there in 1857 according to the 1910 census. At that time they lived in Charlestown in Calumet County. I think they lived in Gravesville, a little settlement there. They had four children who were living in 1910, two daughters Rose and Anna, my greatgrandfather Joseph and one other son who's name I'm not remembering now. (Maybe someone knows. I'd like to know more about all the other siblings.) A bit ago I was looking at plat maps for Calumet county and was surprised to see other Joas land that didn't belong to Frank Joas or his children. Some I believe were near Stockbridge where Joseph and wife Anna settled. That confused me. Are those Joas' families related? Or are they unrelated Finnish Joas families? Or other?
