I have had to use the matching of the date method to determine who the spouse was, just as you did. In a case where there was more than one wedding on a specific day, then I have added the Vol. and Page numbers into the search criteria. For example, by adding the Vol and Page numbers to the date that you gave for Flora Lee Daniels marriage (10 June 1885), I could only find one match, that being to John L Bouett. Sound familiar to you? I realize this system won't always work, but a majority of the time it should, especially in the early years of record keeping. As for your second question, the index that we have online is a state generated index. This means if you send all of the criteria on a specific marriage (name, date, vol, page, vol, and sequence #) you should be able to get a copy of the certificate itself. I have heard that sending such a request to the state for these records can take a very long time -- up to six months in some cases. There are several other ways to possibly obtain the same information and in a much faster time frame. One is to go to the county courthouse and see if they also have a copy of the same certificate on file. Many, if not most, times there is a record at the county level, but, again, with these early records, there is no guarantee that a copy will be in both places. If you are close enough to check this out on the county level, I would encourage you to do so. Or if you are not, and you need addresses of where to send your requests to, the State address is Wisconsin Division of Health Vital Records P.O. Box 309 1 West Wilson Street, Rm 158 Madison, WI 53701 and the county address is: Barron County Courthouse Register of Deeds Office 330 E. Lasalle Barron, WI 54812 The cost of the marriage certificates are the same at either office - $7.00. Please remember that the identifying numbers that you find on the indexes online are only for use when ordering the certificates from the STATE. They do not apply to the county level filing system. You can also obtain these records online through the Wisconsin Historical Society's Online Genealogical Research service. The cost is different, but the convenience is great. Here is the URL for this service: http://www.shsw.wisc.edu/genealogy/ogrs/terms.html Of course, the above information is in regards to the Pre-1907 indexes and how to obtain copies of the original certificates. I hope this helps to answer some of your questions. Nance
