    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZEC.2ACE/1162.1 Message Board Post: Hi Dave, I found your query to be interesting and have looked around to see what I could find on the ASLIN surname (and other variants). The first item that I could find that contained information on the name was the 1900 Census for Cumberland Township. The page in particular that contains information is here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wibarron/census/1900cumberlandtsp7.htm -- check household #340. Apparently your Magloire remarried by this time, as his wife's name is listed as "Flora" and there is a step-daughter living in the same household with the surname of COOPER. Children listed from the previous marriage that were still living at home include Henry, Cora and Mary Anne "Annie". He also had a daughter with his second wife by the name of Dellfina. To find out more about this possible marriage, I went to the Vital Records section of the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wibarron/marriages/a2marriages.htm and found that a 'Magler' indeed had married 21 Jan 1899, but I can't say for positive sure that he is yours. By matching dates, I found that Magler married a Flora Daniels, which seems to fit with the census information. Also listed on the Vital records Pre-1907 Marriage index is a Leon (son of your Magloire?), who married Menerva Tucker on 3 Apr 1896. I also found in the school histories that a group of 26 French-Canadian families had come to the Lake Vermillion area in the Cumberland Township and were working at a mill that was located on the west bank of the lake. They had established the first school for that area, called Vermillion Lake #5. I'm not sure though, if the mill was on Upper or Lower Vermillion Lake. There was also a Marjorie Aslin listed as a landowner in the 1903 Landowners Atlas of Barron Co. Could this possibly be your Magloire? If so, he is listed as owning land in Section 34 of Cumberland Township. This would be about 3 miles directly south of Lower Vermillion Lake. Incidently, my great-grandfather's name was also Magloire (he was from Quebec, Canada) and he ended up shortening it to "Mack" or "Mike", even "Michael" when he moved to Washburn Co. Just out of curiosity, have you found any records where your Magloire used any of these names? I don't live in Barron Co. myself and know how frustrating it can be to try to do research via long distance. That is why we are trying to get as much data on the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site as possible. There have been some wonderful people volunteering information and we are adding data to the website regularly. I hope what we have found so far will help to pinpoint your family and give you clues to expand your research. I wish you much luck. Nance Barron Co. WIGenWeb CC
