Surnames: ASLIN, ASHLIN, DANIELS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZEC.2ACE/1162.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you, so much, for the help. Yes, Marjorie could be Magloire; more hearsay records say that [son] Henry built a house "about 3-1/2 miles south of Lake Vermillion". I've got a couple of questions - maybe you could answer... 1. Is there a listing somewhere that shows who married whom? (Not just what person got married when) Or is there a different way to be sure you're looking at the correct two people? For example, "Daniels, Flora Lee 10 Jun 1885..."; by doing a search for "10 Jun 1885" in each of the marriage records files, I came up with 6 other listings (I must have missed one, unless someone married themself). How do I know who belongs to whom? 2. Using the information in these listings, can I track down the actual document(s) certifying this marriage (or the land records)? Where do I start... where to next? Thank you, again, Dave

Surnames: NULL, HEUER Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZEC.2ACE/1163 Message Board Post: ** Posted for informational purposes only -- Poster is not related to the subject of this biography. Peter W. Null, farmer, P O Ironwood, Barron county, was born in Canada, April 28, 1852, and is a son of Edmund and Libby (Sweet) Null, who early came to Houston county, Minn., and still follow farming. Mr. Null early in life learned the carpenter's trade, and when Rice Lake was still in its infancy (1875) he came here and for ten years there were few men who worked more faithfully than did he. For several years while in Rice Lake he was in the employ of Knapp, Stout & Co. as carpenter. Six years ago he moved on their Cedar Lake farm, which comprises 1,000 acres of tillable soil. He employs ten men the year round. August 29, 1879, he married Miss Bertha Heuer, whose parents have resided here for about fifteen years, and now live south of Stanley. To this union have been born two children: Frank and Mabel. His wife is a member of the Lutheran church, while he is a Presbyterian. He is identified with the I. O. O. F. and the A. O. U. W. In politics he has ever upheld t! he principles of democracy. --Transcribed from the "Historical and Biographical Album of the Chippewa Valley Wisconsin, 1891-2," page 922.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZEC.2ACE/1162.1 Message Board Post: Hi Dave, I found your query to be interesting and have looked around to see what I could find on the ASLIN surname (and other variants). The first item that I could find that contained information on the name was the 1900 Census for Cumberland Township. The page in particular that contains information is here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wibarron/census/1900cumberlandtsp7.htm -- check household #340. Apparently your Magloire remarried by this time, as his wife's name is listed as "Flora" and there is a step-daughter living in the same household with the surname of COOPER. Children listed from the previous marriage that were still living at home include Henry, Cora and Mary Anne "Annie". He also had a daughter with his second wife by the name of Dellfina. To find out more about this possible marriage, I went to the Vital Records section of the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wibarron/marriages/a2marriages.htm and found that a 'Magler' indeed had married 21 Jan 1899, but I can't say for positive sure that he is yours. By matching dates, I found that Magler married a Flora Daniels, which seems to fit with the census information. Also listed on the Vital records Pre-1907 Marriage index is a Leon (son of your Magloire?), who married Menerva Tucker on 3 Apr 1896. I also found in the school histories that a group of 26 French-Canadian families had come to the Lake Vermillion area in the Cumberland Township and were working at a mill that was located on the west bank of the lake. They had established the first school for that area, called Vermillion Lake #5. I'm not sure though, if the mill was on Upper or Lower Vermillion Lake. There was also a Marjorie Aslin listed as a landowner in the 1903 Landowners Atlas of Barron Co. Could this possibly be your Magloire? If so, he is listed as owning land in Section 34 of Cumberland Township. This would be about 3 miles directly south of Lower Vermillion Lake. Incidently, my great-grandfather's name was also Magloire (he was from Quebec, Canada) and he ended up shortening it to "Mack" or "Mike", even "Michael" when he moved to Washburn Co. Just out of curiosity, have you found any records where your Magloire used any of these names? I don't live in Barron Co. myself and know how frustrating it can be to try to do research via long distance. That is why we are trying to get as much data on the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site as possible. There have been some wonderful people volunteering information and we are adding data to the website regularly. I hope what we have found so far will help to pinpoint your family and give you clues to expand your research. I wish you much luck. Nance Barron Co. WIGenWeb CC

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ASLIN, ASHLIN, BUSS, FLYNN, PELAN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZEC.2ACE/1162 Message Board Post: I am looking for any further information on MAGLOIRE ASLIN (also found as MAYLAIRE, MAGLER; may also be listed as ASHLIN, ASSLIN, etc.) who came to Barron County, I believe in the Cumberland area (possibly near, or south of Lake Vermillion, by a place called "French Hill"), around 1889. He apparently came from Quebec (somewhere near Montreal), through the Lake Nebagamon area. He arrived in the Cumberland area with his wife, OLIVINE [PELAN?] (also found as OLIVIEN(E)) and children FREDERICK, JOSEPH, LEON, HENRY JOSEPH, CORA MARIA, and MARY ANNE. The girls later married to become CORA MARIA BUSS and MARY ANNE FLYNN. It would appear that I already have much information on this man, but much of it is hearsay, and has not led me to records of his birthplace, parents, or siblings. I would specifically like any information on where, exactly, his land may have been (or that owned by any of his sons) or anything else related to any of the people mentioned here. I would also like to take a moment to profusely thank all who read, request info, and especially research and provide answers to this message board. I have seen lots of valuable information exchange hands here. I hope I can be as helpful to someone, somewhere along the way. Dave

Erik Gilseth, farmer, P O Chetek, Barron county, was born in Norway, August 28, 1837. After leaving school he learned the carpenter's trade, which he followed for some time, as well as being engaged in farming. In 1868 he immigrated to America and settled in the Chippewa Valley, near Menomonie, Dunn county, where he bought a farm, and also worked for the Knapp, Stout Lumber Co. one year. In 1873 he sold his farm and moved to Barron county, where he entered 160 acres of land under the homestead law, on section three, Chetek township. He has since added 120 acres, and has about 100 improved. Mr. Gilseth married, in Norway, April 29, 1862, Mary A. Bordahl, and they have four children living: Annie, Johnnie, Julia and Sarah, all of whom are at home. When Mr. Gilseth first came to Chetek there were but four settlers east of the lakes. In politics he is a strong republican, and is a member of the Lutheran church. Since coming here he has been fairly successful as a farmer! , and is a fair representative of the Norwegian class of farmers. --Transcribed from the "Historical and Biographical Album of the Chippewa Valley Wisconsin, 1891-2," page 843.

Currently we believe that there are two lost branches (of the 12 kids). We had a huge reunion in Norway 5 years ago with 300 in attendance. let me know if you have any additional info!
